VioletChaos Report post Posted March 7, 2011 RED LANTERNA tribute to the opium den cum bawdyhouses of Shanghai in the 1930’s. Golden amber, blonde tobacco, Sudanese black coconut, rich caramel, black currant, white opium and delphinium laced with a sensual blend of Asian spice. This is everything that I hoped it would be- the rich, sweet decadence of Red Lantern transmuted into a *mood* for one's living space. It's not different from Red Lantern perfume in any way I can detect, scent-wise, and yet there's something here that changes it, makes it a scent for atmosphere. I don't have a compulsion to spray this on my body, even if that were possible, and, interestingly, I don't feel some compulsion to dab on the oil while this wafts through the air. Instead I want to transform my living space, make it into something more befitting this scent. In the same way that a good spritz of Cathouse in my bedroom encourages me to hang pink gauzy curtains in the windows and turn on a sexy lamp with a red bulb in it next to my bed, so too does Red Lantern implore me to hang velvet tapestries on my walls, string tiny lights across my ceiling and invite my most lacivious friends over for a risque game of truth AND consequence.Oh yes, this is one to stock up on
sunshinedaisybliss Report post Posted March 18, 2011 Holy guacamole, this is good stuff. Seriously, seriously, good stuff. This totally smells like an opium den. Not that I've spent time in an opium den! Well, maybe I have. But you'll never know I feel like I'm just copying what VioletChaos said.. but really, this spray should also come with interior design transformation powers - I expected to turn around and find the room full of old black leather furniture with red velvet throws draped all over them and massive soft tasselled velvet cushions everywhere. And a big old mahogany four-poster bed with miles of silken fabrics billowing around it. There's cast iron candelabras everywhere, and through the hazy room I can see a half-naked man reclining on a burgundy velvet chaise lounge over in the corner, lazily swirling his cognac around a jewelled goblet. And I'm pretty sure there would be a bawdy wench or two around somewhere. Anyway - where was I? Oh yeah.. Red Lantern spray. It's rich and spicy - exotic and delicious. There's a very intoxicating sweetness that's not foody/candy like at all - but oh so yummy. This is good. So Good. GET SOME NOW!
Little Bird Report post Posted April 19, 2011 Red Lantern wound up not working for me as a perfume, but I do love it as a room spray. It reminds me of slightly spiced caramel apples, thick with sweetness and a touch of coconut, but hints of tobacco smoke and golden amber give it more of a dark, sensual edge that wafts around like some sort of magical, exotic, tropical incense. Love it
thekittenkat Report post Posted April 21, 2011 The room spray is somewhat different to the perfume oil. Lovely as the perfume is, I'm glad that the spray is a little different, at least to my nose. What I get is the tobacco and the coconut in a rich combination of pipe tobacco and dried coconut husks. All this is tinted with the caramel and currant to give the scent a bit of sweetness, and the spices only deepen the richness. For me, this will be a lovely spray in the autumn; it just has that depth and richness that I associate with autumn scents.
starpixi81 Report post Posted April 26, 2011 This smells a lot like Death Adder in room spray form to me. I get an almost smokey-coconut with a lot of caramel and something darker lingering in the background. Ultimately this ends up not being for me as it is a little too sweet, but it is very lovely all the same.
gniwle Report post Posted May 2, 2011 Mmmm! This smells like what I imagine an opium den would really smell like. It's sweet and hazy and almost syrupy sweet and I love it. I didn't think something this sweet would appeal to me, but it's not foody sweet or vanilla sweet, so it really hits the spot when I want something sweet smelling. I'm so glad I got a bottle of this! Indigo78 Report post Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) Um, this is incredible. I want to smell it all the time. It starts off very sweet and mellows into a rich, smoky, tobacco-y scent that is both relaxing and almost erotic... Naughty, sexy, delicious stuff, here. I used to have a bottle of Red Lantern a couple of years ago that I don't remember being nearly as enamored with, but I wish I still had it so that I could make a comparison. What's interesting is that I don't normally care for caramel *anything*. The note has that "bad taste/smell stuck in the throat & won't go away" olfactory effect on me. But somehow , this is tempered perfectly by the spices, incense, coconut, etc. I really wish I could articulate just how luxurious this... Backup-worthy for sure if you can track it down. myth Report post Posted May 19, 2011 (edited) I love this spray! Whoever thought of making RL into an atmo deserves Genius of the Friggin Year award. For reals. I have a bottle of the perfume from 2006, but I don't wear it too often. I can't bring myself to get rid of it [altho I did sell my '08 bottle] because RL was one of the first at-the-time-not-available LEs that I fell in love with, hunted down, and cherished. But my skin chemistry has changed in the intervening years, and now something in it goes just a little off on me. So the atmo is everything I love about the perfume, without the skin chemistry issues. I am a hyooge atmo 'ho anyway, but most of the ones I have are dark an incensy. Or very foody. This is kind of nicely in-between. And it just smells glorious. I am very happy to have a bottle of this one, and hopefully in a year or two when I'm running low it will return just in time for me to replenish my stock. LOVE! strahlend Report post Posted May 19, 2011 This smells much like the Red Lantern oil I have from '08. In both cases my first impression is of an overwhelming sweetness, I wouldn't say caramel but it is sugary. It only takes a few moments though for the sweetness to calm down a bit and for the coconut and spices to come forward. The coconut isn't like tropical vacation coconut, it's a much darker incarnation that combines perfectly with the amber and sweetness to create a syrupy feeling. Despite that description I wouldn't say that it seems in any way foody. After a while it sort of turns into a lovely, hazey, incensy, sultry cloud of fragrance that's just fantastic. This is one of those smells where the whole is completely different than I would imagine from looking at it's components.
zagadka Report post Posted July 2, 2011 I generally don't like foody or overly-sweet smells, but have been trying to venture out of my box and this was a very good scent to prove why that's a great idea. This is one of the only scents that arrived and smelled exactly the way its described and exactly the way I thought it would. At first, its sweet decadence. The only way I can describe it is "forbidden fruit"- its what I would imagine the black currant would smell like if it were dipped in salted caramel. It then opens up and becomes a little deeper and a touch smokey, you can definitely catch whiffs of the tobacco, amber and coconut. I also get hints of white floral notes blended in so carefully to cut down on the sweetness. They add a bit of sharp, cleanly notes that fade when the bottom notes come forward. Hints of dry, blond wood mingle with lingering bits of sweet fruit and rich caramel and coconut with a touch of spice. Totally indulgent smelling and suuuuuper delicious. milo Report post Posted December 27, 2012 I've never been able to wear the perfume version of this as caramel amps to high heaven, and the opium just made this smell like burnt caramel on me. As an atmosphere spray, I don't find it seductive and mysterious or anything I'd imagine an opium den to smell like. It more reminds me of a kitchen where someone is baking spice cookies. Nice as an atmosphere spray, but not very evocative to the description.

LizziesLuck Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Red Lantern is pretty much my holy grail BPAL scent. I had been on a hiatus for a few years, and was devastated when I returned to find I had missed out on this Atmo. Luckily I hunted one down on the forum, and now it is mine!!! Smells exactly like Red Lantern. Gorgeous smoky, almost boozey caramel and coconut. Sex in a (spray) bottle.
