ami226 Report post Posted March 20, 2011 (edited) Disclaimer: I have not tried the released version, so I can't really compare!! In the bottle: Whoa! That is some intense cream cheese frosting! On the skin: Oh, wow! Rich cream cheese frosting, sugar, and a hint of spices. If I thought I could taste whatever this scent smells like by gnawing at my hand, I would do it in a heartbeat! I just want to eat this!! Drying off a bit: The cream cheese frosting is fading a bit and I am now getting more of the spices. They aren't sharp at all. Just lovely, yummy baking spices. I'd say a hint of cinnamon, maybe some nutmeg, and a bit of.... something else. This spices point reminds me a little of how I remember Bakeneko to be. Dry now: The cream cheese is gone now, but the light, yummy spices are still here with a bit of cakiness undertone. Reminds me of how the house smells when I have sweet baked goods in the oven! The one drawback to this scent is that it seems to fade pretty quickly. Within an hour or two, all I could detect was a faint whiff of vanilla. Still good though! -ETA- I just want to thank my lovely angel for sending me this one randomly!! You know me veeeery well!! cheshirecat Report post Posted March 20, 2011 (edited) On me, this is more like my beloved Beaver Moon 05 than the released version of Cake Smash. In my top 5 for sure Edited March 20, 2011 by cheshirecat
Dark Alice Report post Posted March 21, 2011 Yellow Cake batter with hints of sugary icing. Wow! I want to eat my hand...but I have no desire to own this bottle. Glad it's going to a better home.
Venneh Report post Posted March 21, 2011 In the bottle, this is definitely similar to the original Cake Smash, but lighter on the cake note and heavier on the cream cheese frosting spiciness. On my skin, cream cheese frosting spiciness with a faint hint of cake. Compared to the original Cake Smash, this is lighter and not quite as heavy on the Doc C/Dorian/Snake Oil mix. Not quite for me, I think.
saralaughs Report post Posted March 22, 2011 It's weird but I don't get any/hardly any cake out of this version. It's a strong, rich icing with lovely spices. It's almost like Snake Oil Frosting/Hold The Cake on me. I can deal with that.
angelicruin Report post Posted March 22, 2011 I'm getting very heavy cream cheese frosting and spices...lots of spices. When I sniff my wrist I imagine it's a piece of frosted carrot cake.
tarotgirl99 Report post Posted March 24, 2011 I second Cheshire Cat. This is Beaver Moon 05, with better throw. Yum to the yummiest.
scrappy Report post Posted March 25, 2011 You know how when you first open up a boxed cake mix, and that delicious powdered cake smell wafts up at you? Yeah, this is it. Yummy yellow cake batter, with the teeniest hint of spices. The light spices burn off pretty quickly, leaving only the yellow cake behind. Medium throw, looooong wear length on my skin (8+ hours and still going strong). My absolute favorite proto from this trunk show!
fetish911 Report post Posted March 28, 2011 yep. Beaver Moon 05. Smells damn good that is for sure. I have the released Cake Smash as well and this proto doesn't have the other components in it as mentioned above. Just strait up sweet creamy frosting that is perfect for this foodie. Yum! I will treasure my bottle!! 5/
opticnerd Report post Posted March 29, 2011 YUM! This is totally Cake Smash, but without the complexity of the Snake Oil, DC, and Dorian notes. Its almost identical to Beaver'versary, on me. I wouldn't say Beaver 05, but maybe I just got a bad batch of that one that smelled like pure cream cheese and something syrupy-sweet. Ick. This one has rich, creamy, vanilla-y cream cheese frosting, but, thank goodness, it doesn't smell like cheese on me.
Invidiana Report post Posted March 31, 2011 (edited) This is cake, pure unadulterated CAKE! It's the buttery goodness of yellow vanilla cake positively slathered with cavity-inducing creamy vanilla frosting, and only amps on the vanilla as it dries down. As opposed to the released which is distinctly red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting plus Snake Oil, Dorian and Doc Constantine, this is a true frosted vanilla cake. It's one of those which you need to keep reminding yourself is indeed not edible. Edited March 31, 2011 by Invidiana
alyssinwonderland Report post Posted March 31, 2011 (edited) As I have a bottle of the released version, I assumed I wouldn't need to be bothered to try this prototype. Yet, I was proven wrong thanks to the lovely kattharia sending me a large decant to test out. As most have said thus far, this is definitely not the released version- as that one had much more of a perfumey edge to it because of the additions of Doc Constantine, Dorian, and Snake Oil. Sniffing the bottle and when wet- I still get the very potent cakey, cream cheese, with a definite Beaver'versary feeling. Once dry- this morphed a bit and I got these awesome baking spices that came out more (some others have gotten this as well) It was lovely! Sadly the spiciness did fade but then..I was left with the reason everyone was going crazy over this! I have pure luscious vanilla buttercream frosting. No cake, no cream cheese, no other perfumes...just rich, (lightly)buttery, yum. Fantastic. Edited March 31, 2011 by alyssinwonderland
starpixi81 Report post Posted April 1, 2011 (edited) Many thanks to the awesome person who frimped me some of this to try. This is vanilla cake on me with cream cheese frosting. The released version of this was a bit heavier on me, but this is more light and fluffly. It does remind me of a softer Beaver'versary. Very light throw on me, but a soft and lush vanilla is lingering. Really nice! Edited April 1, 2011 by moonberryjam
Little Bird Report post Posted April 5, 2011 (edited) I love foodie and cake blends (the Monster Bait cake scents and Eat Me are all favorites for me), but Cake Smash v6 is intensely sweet and cloying on me for the first couple hours of wear. I agree with scrappy's review in that this has that sweet, powdery scent that you'd get from opening up a box of yellow cake mix. It's fun and different from bpal's other cake scents, and intensely sweet, like sugar on top of sugar. For a while, this smells a lot like Beaver Moon (which always smells slightly sour to me), but like Beaver Moon had a box of yellow cake mix and a pound of sugar dumped on to it. After about three hours, I suddenly really liked this scent, and it smells very similar to Gypsy moth's dry, sweet, golden vanilla and delicate spiciness. The first few hours can be a bit too sweet, but I think this is good enough for me to want a bottle to wear every once in a while. I have to be in the mood for its heavy, hyper sweetness, but the powdery cake mix smell is warm and comforting. I'm happy to have a full bottle coming my way. Penance Report post Posted April 14, 2011 Origin: 5mL from the Lab. Preconceived notions: I've never tried the released version of Cake Smash. I was on my BPAL hiatus when it was released and I'm not sure I would have tried it anyway. Somehow the idea of food + other BPAL scents combined doesn't sound particularly awesome to me, plus I don't really like Doc Constantine. I may have tried it, though. Hard to say either way. Anyway, I'm not a huge foody scent fan. There are some that I genuinely love and there are some that I absolutely despise and can't get far enough away from. But cake scents tend to work fairly well for me (MB: Closet is a favorite of mine and so is Eat Me), so I'm hopeful that Cake Smash v6 will follow the same pattern. First sniff: Big blast of cream cheese frosting. Sniffing the bottle is like sticking my nose right into a tub of frosting and taking a bit snoot-full. Very sweet, very sugary and very foody. I like the smell of frosting, but I don't want to smell like it. At least not on its own. Give me some cake to go with it and it should be fine. Wet on skin: Now the cake is coming out. I can see the comparisons to cake mix, but it seems somewhere in between cake mix and actual cake (yellow cake, to be exact) to my nose. I still get frosting, but it's toned down and it seems to be a mix of cream cheese and buttercream. Could just be particularly sweet cream cheese frosting, though, since I'm not sure that two types of frosting notes would be mixed in a scent like this. Dry down: Very slightly spicy cake (like a yellow cake and a spice cake had a baby), with sugary frosting (buttercream now that it's dry). Very foody and very sweet. It's in the same vein as MB: Closet and I'm actually really enjoying it in spite of my hit or miss record with gourmand scents. The bottom line: I'm glad I got a bottle of this. It's not the sort of scent I'd wear every day, but it's going to be fun to wear when I'm in the mood for something fun and foody.
zankoku_zen Report post Posted April 21, 2011 I find this to be more along the lines of MB Closet, which is of course, a kissing cousin to Beaver Moon 2005. Yes, there's cake but really this is all about the frosting. And spices. This has a good bit of cinnamon and all spice in it. In that sense it makes me think more of Closet. Too foodie for me. sunshinedaisybliss Report post Posted May 3, 2011 I second Cheshire Cat. This is Beaver Moon 05, with better throw. Yum to the yummiest. And I third cheshirecat! Plus, I totally her for sending me a tester of this Ayup - Beaver Moon '05 meets Cake Smash. The cream cheese/cheesecake smell is really strong at first, for about a half-hour or so, but then it starts to settle back a bit and the cake-y note comes out more.. until eventually the two meld together nicely. In the end, this gives me something that smells like Beaver Moon + Beaver'versary + Cake Smash + MB: Closet all mixed in together. It's got good staying power, and once it's fully dried down it doesn't really morph around at all. In comparison to the released version of Cake Smash, this prototype is more cream cheese and less cake.. and I think it's more sweet. The standout in this proto for me is the lovely rich vanilla - French vanilla, maybe? It's delish. Uber-foodie, full of nonsense and sweet silliness, this is the one to grab when you want to smell lickable. Not recommended for wearing to children's birthday parties, or days at the zoo!! Ondine Report post Posted May 8, 2011 Hm, I'm just getting the vanilla/yellow cake powder part. No icing really; no Dorian/Snake Oil. It does smell on me like Beaver Moon 2005 but it's really light. I have to hold my wrist to my nose to really smell it. Nice, but nothing I need to chase after.
Gold Dust Kitten Report post Posted June 1, 2011 I love the released version of Cake Smash, so I was happy to have found a bottle of the prototype. In the bottle, it smells very similar to the cream cheese frosting in Cake Smash, or MB Closet. On my skin, it's Beaver Moon 05, but stronger. It's like a lightly spiced carrot cake with thick cream cheese frosting. The dry down smells like pure yellow cake, and the spices are gone. This really doesn't have much throw and it doesn't last. TulaMontage Report post Posted June 4, 2011 Oh oh oh!!!! The cream note in this is EXACTLY the same as in my beloved Loves Philosophy. It's creamy cakey goodness. FAR lighter on the dorian/doc/snake oil which suits me just fine. I much prefer this version of Cake Smash, although I will be keeping my original bottle of course. It takes a while for this scent to mature on my skin. It's all butter cream and sweet frosting, but eventually gets richer with added safron spicy goodness. This is almost (ALMOST) like a baby closet... it's not as sweet but I am convinced they share mostly the same notes. V6 FTW!!!!!!
boxinghelena Report post Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) Cake Smash v6 is very Beaver Moon 05 on me which is divine because I hoarded BM05 like woah when it came out. I have to dig out the released version of Cake Smash to compare one day. Edit: I also wanted to point out that though it is very similar to BM05, Cake Smash v6 is more in the way of CAKE than cream cheese frosting. I love it. I always want to smell like cake. Yum! Wish I had about five more bottles of this. ~ Edited July 10, 2011 by boxinghelena
killerklown Report post Posted July 9, 2012 While everyone else is getting spices and tons of frosting, I'm getting a deep rich dark chocolate cake with a small amount of cream cheese frosting. It does remind me of Beaver Moon 05 but definitely more intense. So glad I was able to score this from Etsy.
JazzieCazzie Report post Posted September 16, 2013 Was able to pick up two cakey-yummy-HTF imps, this and PPGC, and test drove them on separate arms. This won the day big-time for me! IN THE IMP: Sweet and rich and creamy. I don't actually get the chocolate of red velvet, just a generally numminess. Dabbed on wrist and in crook of arm. WET: Num num num num. Not very descriptive, I suppose. But in my quest for the perfect (not too plasticy) cake blend, this is cupcake perfection to me. DRYDOWN: Stays lightly sweet and delicious, foody but not perfumey, and not TOO sweet. Just. Right. I honestly don't think "cream cheese frosting" but I think I would associate that with being more pungent and this is not pungent. It's just ... freshly baked cake from my oven. OVERALL: An absolute delicious keeper. I wish I had more. No plastic, no caramel, no play-doh. Whatever is in it, it works really well with my picky body chemistry. On a scale of 1-5, a 4.
tharsei-thanate Report post Posted January 12, 2015 Full disclosure, I've never tried the original. Now, cake blends don't work on me most of the time. My skin chem makes them smell stale or like plastic, and yet I keep trying every cake blend I can find just in case it works. I was hoping this would be a winner but alas, it's a little stale. It smelled lovely wet, like batter, and then it went through the rest of the stages of cake life, aka from batter to baking to ready to serve to the leftovers sitting on the counter for 3 weeks. Occasionally I get whiffs of sweetness which manage to break through the staleness before retreating again. I definitely get cream cheese frosting vibes from that sweetness. Luckily, the staleness becomes less apparent (but still present if I look for it) the longer I wear this, and I'm definitely getting yellow cake with a thin layer of cream cheese frosting. Overall, definitely a better cake blend experience than usual but still not quite a winner. I think I'll still keep the decant, though. It might work better in my scent locket.
