A Thought from Propertius

Recommended Posts

Sweet honey, white apricot, and a touch of cayenne pepper.

Maybe it's my skin chemistry but on me this is identical to Pandy, just minus the white musk.
I really liked Pandy, but my least favorite part was the white musk, so I'm happy to keep my decant :)

This was not at all what I expected. As someone mentioned earlier, my brain also seems to be reading the cayenne as cinnamon. It's kind of one note and I don't really get any honey or apricot. :(

In the imp: Spicy (cayenne) honey. Slurp!

Wet: Sharp and hot cayenne overpowers everything else. Do not like.

Drydown: The first half hour this stays hot, but then mellows into a lightly-fruity honey. That sounds better than it actually is, because there's almost a plastic-y note.

This lasts for hours and the longer it stays on, the more it becomes a pure Honey SN, which is, as you can imagine, lovely. However, I am not willing to smell though the two or three hours before the SN Honey comes to stay.

Disappointed.

In the decant: Honey and apricot, and a hint of pepper.

Wet: Alas, more pepper, but some sweetness.

The dry-down: Sort of sweet, sort of peppery. Not sure what to think.

Lovely honey at first with a touch of spice. I like this. Dry, the apricot comes out and stomps over everything. The blend is much too sweet now, no more spice, just uber sweet apricot. Reminds me of apricot preserves. Not for me.

ITI: The honey is super sweet here, like honey infused with sugar. I go get a little apricot, but no cayenne. I'm hoping that comes through on my skin because it is otherwise too sweet for me.

Wet: Oh, yea. That's still really sweet honey. It almost reminds me of the over-scented bathroom stall deodorizers. I'm fighting the urge to wash this off immediately. On second application, it smells better - more cayenne and apricot, but I'm still weary of that honey note.

Dry: I still get bathroom deodorizers, so it's in the trade pile for this imp.

This was one of my favorite lupers of this year. I can't believe I have not reviewed my decant yet.

It reminds me of a hot sunny day, in a field. Eating fresh juicy apricots, thicken with honey and touch of cayenne pepper for good measure. Its so good that it is dripping down your throat. Spilling onto your clothes, that you just have to laugh at yourself. The trees are heavy and thick with leaves, the air slightly breezy and in the distance you hear, a long lost love calling your name........

its hot, juicy and pure spice.

verdict: bottle worthy

In the bottle - A floral honey and a touch of quite green apricot

Wet on me - There's a blast of honey and then it smells like lipstick with just a smear of apricot jam

Dry on me - A soft, hazy honey

Overall - I like the dry down, but I don't love it

In the bottle: urgh..... some strange, gummy, almost chewing/bubble-gum sort of scent. I can tell there is more behind it in complexity, but right now it smells like overly-sweet soapy chewing gum.

On my skin immediately: Already much nicer than from the bottle! That gumminess begins to tone down immediately and warm up a bit. Then: holy moly honey!! ALL the honey. The honey really drowns this blend out right now. It's a very spiced and musky honey, but almost resin-like in a way. I get NO apricot which is so sad because I love apricot :( .

After a little while: A shy fresh note emerges.. the apricot? And the honey stops screaming its musk in my face. A hit of pepper at the end. I dunno how I feel about this one exactly... it smells a little off to me, and still faintly like chewing gum.... but also green and spicy at the same time.

Initially this has a distinct "Christmas Potpourri" scent on me--a mix of slightly creamy vanilla with cinnamon overtones. Fortunately it dries down to a delightful mix of ever so slightly fruity spice with a hint of cream. The description of honey with dusty spice and roundness from apricot is dead on.

5 out of 5. Would wear several days a week if I didn't have so many to choose from!

I love apricot scents. Pandy, Aristocratic Couple, Depraved - all favourites.

Wet: I get the same apricot note I know and love, but the cayenne is reading as a weird cross between eucalyptus and cinnamon. It's gross. But I have a feeling it will settle, so I am going to be patient. It's a little bit warm where I tested it - not burny, per se, but I have never experienced an oil to warm my skin before. It's kind of pleasant!

The spice is slowly settling into something less unpleasant, but it is also amping to high heaven. Blarg!

Dry: Thank goodness, this settles down nicely, and it's lovely. Sweet and still slightly tart apricot, with hints of warm spice to give it some depth. Lovely.

Wet: Flowers pistil, honey. Creamy.

Dry: Very near the wet impression, with an almost floral honey. Its warm and creamy, almost thick, but not spicy. The apricot lends just a hint of fruitiness, but not something I can pick up blind. The cayenne gives it just a pinch of sharpness. Mostly just honey.

A Thought from Propertius is bizarre on me. I don't know what it smells like, but it's not honey and apricot with a dash of cayenne. Oh, I'm getting the cayenne, a kind of kick to the back of my sinuses more than a smell. But the honey-apricot combo goes weird on my skin. I have had honey do this in the past, I just can't remember which blend, though usually BPAL honey is really good on me. I had to pull out my bottle of L'Agonie to remind myself how much I can enjoy an apricot-honey blend. After a couple of hours it gets less cloying, but this one clearly is not going to work on my skin chemistry. Pass.

In the decant: Apricot, cayenne, honey.

On my skin:

Wet, it's sweetened cayenne. As it dries, the apricot becomes detectable again as well. In this early stage, something in the blend -- I'd actually guess the cayenne (since I've never experienced this with honey or apricot before) -- has a quality almost like menthol.

After about fifteen minutes, however, the blend settles down, and the menthol aspect disappears. It is apricot and honey with a touch of cayenne. On me, the apricot-honey pairing is very sweet, and I imagine that without the spice of the cayenne, this blend might be cloying.

I would tell you that throw is low to medium on me. However, last time I tested it, my husband commented about the strength of the BPAL I was wearing. So maybe some aspect of the blend is stronger than I notice?

I've held onto this imp for a long time. I keep opening it, sniffing, and saying "eh" before throwing it back in my tester box. Foodies are generally a BIG YES for me, but something about this particular combination of sweet-spicy and apricot (not bad but, IMO, peach's inferior cousin) just... fails to interest me. It's sweet in a flat, uninspiring way, with the cayenne pepper adding a weird tickly factor in my sinuses.

There was a minute, while this was wet on my skin, that I actually perked up a bit and enjoyed it. Very bright and cheerful! Then the drydown kicked in, and it's worse than the imp scent: generically sweet and Play-Doh-like. Not a win for me.
