I am SO glad i put the butterflies away to age...

I still can barely smell anything in the bottle, but it smells pleasant enough.
I had to apply/slather this twice...my skin literally drank the first!
Snuggly warm tonka, hints of sandalwood and orange blossom and man, the ambrette seed takes this to a whole new level of refined incense when it dries down. I would say this is a new favorite but it has zero throw. I will save this one for 'in' days snuggling in a blanket with a book, or on days when i don't want to share my scent with anyone.
This is cozy, exotic, and gorgeous. I just wish it was louder!

This is another butterfly that's pleasantly surprising me, and making me wish I could've tried more of them before they sold out!

 

Wet, I was a little unsure whether to bother trying it, it's quite...bitter and weedy, and with the 'goatweed' name as well, I was thinking nooo, this is not gonna be good, but I'm glad I persevered! Briefly it has the same almost patchouli-like scent that I got from the Duskywing, and again there's no patchouli, so that's weird, but it quickly fades. Dry, it reminds me a lot of Temple Viper, that almost nag champa-ish vibe, but richer and more interesting. The tonka bean is there, just, but it's very mellow and woodsy. The orange blossom is so faint I would never have guessed at it, just a subtle hint of sweetness. I'm AMAZED that the sandalwood doesn't fuck this right to hell for me, sandalwood is usually a deathnote, but I'm not sure if I've tried *brown* sandalwood before - apparently that likes my skin!

 

Overall it's wonderfully gender-neutral, very soft and slightly powdery-musky, almost with a tiny, tiny hint of leather, and I think it's rather sexy Not something I'll need a bottle of, but if I ever came across a decant I'd snap it up, since I only have a little sniffie!

I was gifted a bottle of this in a circular swap, and I will first say that orange blossom is historically godawful on me (generally on my skin it turns to corn chips) but every other note here I love, so I really wanted to try it anyway.

 

This is the first butterfly I can wear, and the first orange blossom scent that hasn't gone funky on me. It's a miracle! First applied it is all orange blossom all the time, it's fantastic, and has a ton of throw in that stage. After the drydown, it's soft, sweet, and fuzzy smelling as the tonka and sandalwood come out, with some lingering orange blossom, and it stays much closer to the skin. I'll have to edit this later when I have some idea of wear length, but I love this scent!

Loads of warm, dry sandalwood, with a bright citrus burst from the orange blossom. Simple, mild, but lovely and elegant. No tonka for me at all.

 

Warm and fuzzy, but not much throw sadly.

In the decant: Yes, warm and fuzzy. Tonka bean, the sort of gauze that is orange blossom, nutty ambrette seed. I don't get sandalwood in the decant, but there could be other notes on top of it. 

 

On my skin:

 

Wet, it's initially very much orange blossom, over some nondescript and subtle grounding notes. If I were just smelling it at this stage, I wouldn't be able to pick out any of the other notes distinctly. As it dries, the orange blossom crescendoes and then wanes, though it stays very prominent in the scent. It softens down to much orange blossom over tonka, with a detectable undercurrent of ambrette and sandalwood. 

 

It's definitely an interesting take on orange blossom for me, someone who loves orange blossom. It's a refreshing change from seeing it with florals and fruits, or even with the red/blood musk of Chordaea Tenidae (which ends up with a very sultry breath of orange blossom, if such a thing is possible). It's very cozy, and if such a thing as a fall or winter orange blossom scent were to exist, this would be it. 

 

I get a lot of throw from it, as I usually do from orange blossom. Wear length is at least average -- and is still going strong on me.

When I first got this bottle, I could barely smell anything. I kind of liked the hint of what I smelled in it, but it was almost like water - nice scented water.

 

Fortunately, I put it in a box and forgot about it, and just took it out to see if it was worth keeping. Oh my goodness! It has aged into something gorgeous and fragrant! It reminds me most of The Butterfly from the Last Unicorn collection, but fuzzier, browner, even more cuddly. Goatweed Leafwing's tonka is snuggly and vanillic (but not foody), adorable (but not cloying); much like the Tonka Bean, Black Tea, & Vetiver trio, this one is as comforting as a worn-in blanket. The orange blossom is the other element reminding me of The Butterfly; it's totally bergamot essential oil to my nose, a soft fuzzy-edged lime-adjacent herbaceousness. Not cologne in the slightest!

 

Grounding those higher notes are ambrette seed, earthy and sweetly smoky, and the brown sandalwood, which comes wrapped in a smooth tranquility that is like the best Shungas. These are both not flashy notes but they are part of the warmth that this scent exudes. With time and skin-warming, a subtle, deep spice emerges. Almost like tea, but less bitter-tannic than most teas. It's stunning.

 

I am absolutely keeping my bottle and wearing the heck out of it!
