achildoftime Report post Posted November 18, 2017 A thick, spongy white cake spiked with hard apple cider and frosted with whiskey-laden buttercream. It's exactly what it says on the tin. There's quite a bit of buttercream on a cider-drenched cake. I'm not crazy about wearing baked good scents, but you never know until you try. I can see anyone liking apples and cakes loving this. It doesn't smell particularly boozy either, which does make me like it a bit more. It's still not my speed, but I can see where it could be someone's favorite. tigermilking Report post Posted December 16, 2024 All sugary cake, all the time. There's a hint of a very sweet cider and some frosting, but the whiskey isn't there for me. If you told me this was a cake single note, I wouldn't fight with you. That's basically all I've got. I'll set it aside to see if aging will bring out the whiskey and maybe the spicy apple that everyone's talked about.
splendidissima Report post Posted December 19, 2024 2024 version! Ooh, I love this! It's a fluffy white cake with buttercream frosting, plus a warm spiced (not spicy like chili, but like pie spice) apple note - I want to just eat my arm! I agree that it's not very boozy and I don't really get the whiskey, but that's fine with me. Goodness, this is tasty - like you baked a big cake with layers upon layers of buttercream and spiced apple pie filling inside. If you like those things, you will want this one! ghoulnextdoor Report post Posted December 31, 2024 A possum-riding gnome rolls up in a car made of twigs and acorns. "Get in, loser," they grin, "we're having cider with the Green Man." What they pour is fresh-pressed and unsweetened, with something unexpectedly verdant lurking in its depths - like drinking autumn sunshine filtered through new spring leaves. The old magics are simple ones: apples and leaves, earth and air, each sip tasting of secrets whispered between the roots of ancient trees.
