MARS LOUCETIUS

Mars of the Thunderstorm

A white tea chypre with rockrose, white sandalwood, and champaca flower.

Partial to the pretty muscular guy, and there's... a very interesting scent here!
It's very sharply cologney and masculine initially, although once it hits the skin, it starts to go immediately towards a very nice white tea, kind of like The Unsteady Governess, and then it goes more towards a slightly sweet costus (rockrose), with a little bit of dryness from the sandalwood. The Champaca is subtle but makes this not completely an absolute chypre, it adds a nice unisexuality to this scent. This is a refined tea. With a little bit of resin.

Drying down on me the champaca adds a dryness, and once the tea settles, it's a little bit of a gritty (yet light, or white, if that makes sense) scent.

This is very cologne-y for sure but I actually like that. I agree with Lycanthrope that it's very strong white tea when it's wet and it basically stays that way. When it softens and dries though the sandalwood comes out and really tames everything nicely. It does indeed smell mostly of tea and a bit of woods. It's unisex I think but it leans more to the masculine side.

White tea and sandalwood. This smells cologney, but really it just smells like a slightly masculine white tea. Very clean, good throw, good wearlength.

Instead of tea (and maybe I'm just used to green tea) I get oranges? Yep. Citrus warm fresh nice mellow orange, while fresh. Dried more of that creamy-type champaca comes forward, but not enough to offend. Just makes it milder/creamier.

This is Paramatan without the banana or suntan lotion, and I like it better! Not head over heels for it, but a pretty nice and smartly blended/pleasant scent.

Wearing this one today. I agree that it does come across rather masculine, and is a bit sharp when first applied, but it dries down to a fresh tea-sandalwood with a bit of champaca flower that I quite like! I'm undecided if I will need more than my decant, but overall I'm pleased to have this.

Aah, the blend with "dat ass." Straight applied Loucetius reminds me of SweeTarts candy and pine. It's a really weird and kind of unpleasant combo.

But as it dries things get better. It's pretty much white tea with a bright orange/citrus layered across it. The champaca slowly starts lending it a bit of powdery floral sweetness, too. Not so floral that it overwhelms, thankfully, but it adds more interest to the blend. If I don't focus that's all I smell, but there is a bare hint of sandalwood in the background. It smells quite typically feminine to me, so it's a little surprising to think this is actually a Mars blend.

It's friendly and cheerful. Pretty simple overall, not that that's a bad thing, but I personally prefer it when tea is deepened somehow (like honey/tea or incense/tea) versus everything being this bright. I'm pretty sure most people who like Kumiho would also be into this. Also similar to Geisha in Orange Kimono Admiring a Samurai, though I like that one more because the sandalwood is more apparent.

You know, I'm still not exactly sure what chypre is.

In the imp: A floral tea tinged with bitterness. ::sigh:: I may not know what chypre is, but I think everything I've tried with it has been kind of bitter.

Wet on skin: Same as in the imp.I can see where the tea, the rose, the sandalwood and the champaca come in, and they blend nicely together. But then the chypre makes it bitter.

Dried down: Ok, as it dries down, it loses the bitterness a bit. Also, this one is definitely taking its time to sink into my skin. I do like the scent it's ending up with, though.

Throw: Not much on me, but I might not be waiting long enough.

Verdict: *** 1/* This is nice - I love pretty much all the notes in it (except maybe chypre), but this just isn't doing it for me. At least not tonight. I think I'm going to hang on to the decant and give it another try later, but I don't think I need a bottle. Hopefully I won't have to change my mind and hunt one down later.

Mars Loucetius is a really beautiful twist on a white tea scent. Wet, it's a classic white tea cologne, but as it begins to dry, the rockrose and champaca add sweetness and a floral layer that's subtle but dimensional. The sandalwood provides a contemplative, incensey, woody base. It's really elegant and wearable, and I can't wait to test this on my own personal Mars because I think it will smell amazing on him.

Fresh tea, and something akin to citrus. Gradually turns to a more tea/chypre with a touch of grapefruit. This is a fast fade and not worthy of an upgrade.

I'm not great at picking out notes, I tend to go more with what particular scents remind me of. I got this purely on a whim, because I wanted to try at least one of the Mars scents, and it seemed like this one would be up my alley. So I swapped with a lovely forumite, and...it sat in the box until last night. And I looked it up to remind me of the notes, and apparently this title means 'Mars of the Thunderstorm'.

How terribly fitting for someone who loves storms. On me, this smells very crisp and fresh, like the air during and before a storm. It took me a few sniffs to figure out why I liked it, then my brain chimed in with the above. So if you like scents like that, you'll love this.

Masculine? Sharp? Cologn-y? This is why my chemistry is so weird compared to everyone else's...

I am getting a sweet floral...the rockrose is prominent, but the champaca is overtaking all.

Although I like it, it's so one note on me - and now it's fading. Darn. It sounded so good.

It reminds of old school french cologne from the mid 60s or 70s, which today are no longer produced. I swear the combination of notes give it a more of an animalic feel/ vibe, but judging from the notes, no civet is to be found in here.

The drydown is basically white tea and whispers of champaca. The scent took me back in time and awoke memories long forgotten.

This just goes awesome on me. The White Tea is strong but smooth during the wet phase. Smells very oriental during this phase. Drydown is sweeter, smoother and more citrusy..still oriental. Overall wonderful.
