Mellifluous Report post Posted May 31, 2015 Sensual, sibilant, sexual and hypnotic: Arabian musk and exotic spices slinking through Egyptian amber, enticing vanilla, and a serpentine blend of black plum, labdanum, ambrette, benzoin and black coconut. Got my bottles last night, and have been luxuriating in the scent since. Reminiscent of the namesake, but on me this is a fresh remake. Still a sultry deep vibe, but overall it feels brighter than I remember the other 2 versions being. Reminds me of Death Adder with a pinch of Mme Moriarty, and a shot of gleaming shiny vanilla. Really beautiful. I could see almost everyone liking this. Its deep, but not too heavy, sweetened but not cloying, and the fruit is noticeable but not the star, and not jammy. The only people who may be weary, are musk haters, as this does have a nice dollop of that Arabian musk (but imo, it is tempered perfectly with that amber and the spices). Mmm. Just, everyone, please PLEASE get a bottle of this if you are even pondering it.
Hattress Report post Posted June 1, 2015 (edited) I got my bottle this morning, so I haven't had much time with it. Also, I am deathly ill, so I might come back and amend this later. I have also never smelled Snake Charmer before, in any form.I agree with the review above in that it's a deep scent--not heavy, though. I think the plum and vanilla keep the musk and spices from pulling it down too far. Thats a nice surprise for me, since I really can't do heavier scents and from some reviews of Snake Charmer, I was afraid it would be too dark and heavy for me to handle. Buying this gloss was a gamble, and i think I won. It's vanilla with a bit of an incense vibe from the musk, spices, and amber, but still light and sweet. UPDATE: All right...I am definitely allergic to one of the notes in this or something. When I tested it, I noticed that I was coughing a little more than normal. I attributed it to the cold I was trying to get over at first, but no. The back of my throat was burning a little, too. I opened the bottle to give it a sniff today, and the same thing happened. The smell is lovely, and I really like it. But I cannot wear it. Luckily, I found someone to swap with for a gloss that agrees with me more. VioletChaos Report post Posted June 1, 2015 I am one of the rabid Snake Charmer obsessives, so picking up a bottle was not a tough decision! I agree that this has a lightness to it- but I recognize that the bottles of SC I have, have all been aging for years, so I am going to assume that that is the reason for the difference. In any event, I'm actually glad that the hair gloss isn't quite as rich as the perfume oils have aged up to be, because I don't wear Snake Charmer much in the warm months for that very reason. I *do* anticipate getting lots of use out the the SC HG this summer *because* it's like a lighter version of the perfume. However you look at it, it's a time for lovers of Snake Charmer to rejoice! littlesparrow Report post Posted June 5, 2015 I'd never smelled the original Snake Charmer but I love Snake Oil so much I had to try it. I was worried about the coconut as I'm not a fan of it at all, but mercifully I detect nary a hint of it. In fact, it's really similar to Snake Oil, but different enough to be worth buying separately! As others have mentioned it is sufficiently light to wear in summer, so I'm going to get plenty of use out of it! And, am I crazy or does this HG make your hair softer than others?! Anyways, I love it 5/
sarandipitee Report post Posted June 7, 2015 Holy moley. This is hair gloss perfection. Not only is this a (slightly) lighter version of my beloved Snake Charmer - it's incredible at keeping my long ass hair feeling like silk. I've tried a lot of glosses now, and this one is the absolute best in terms of scent and ability to tame my hair. I only ordered 2 bottles and I really wish I could have afforded more. This is going to be hoarded.
SimplySyra Report post Posted June 7, 2015 (edited) I'd never tried Snake Charmer prior to this but I got caught up in the hype and purchased a bottle. My only regret is not purchasing two. This definitely smells similar to Snake Oil but I find it to be much smoother and less acrid right out of the bottle. It's a lovely mix of spice and sweetness without being overly cloying or harsh. This is musky, spicy, incense vanilla paradise. I have thin, fine hair so I have to be careful about how much I spray. But with the right amount, once it dries, it looks so luxurious and shiny without being greasy! Edited June 7, 2015 by SimplySyra
Numanoid Report post Posted June 7, 2015 Like others, I don't remember actually trying the Snake Charmer perfume oil, at least on....sniffed some, but never wore. BUT THIS.....is....so...GOOD!! In the bottle: Smells just like straight up Snake Oil, which is a good thing! On damp hair: It immediately turns into an exotic, lovely, scent!! I get the Snake Oil, but I also get the spices and plum! It is surprisingly light, but it is so amazing! After a few minutes, I get the coconut, but those of you who can't do coconut in some form (I am that person) this is so perfect. It isn't the suntan lotion coconut, but I think the blackened part of it makes it more alluring than beachy! If that makes sense! Hope you didn't miss out on this.....a great keeper and if it ages like the oils do, it will be even more breathtaking!!
Poenari Report post Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) I love original Snake Charmer perfume as well as Snake Charmer Res, so this was a no-brainer of a purchase for me, regardless of how many other bottles of hair gloss I own. I instabought 3 bottles of this to have on hand, because I expect it to age beautifully, but also plan to apply liberally. I also started wearing my Snake Charmer perfume for a few days to get ready and remind myself of the scent. My bottles arrived today, and I jumped into the shower to wash my hair and apply my fresh but warm from the mailbox Snake Charmer HG. I did shake it up first, since I know how the hair glosses can separate, and this one has a Snake Oil type of base, which definitely separates. On damp towel dried hair, a few sprays into my palm, and YESSSS! This is definitely my beloved SC. After a light blow dry, I sprayed a bit on top to shine up the dry curly hair that I have. I am posting this review 7 hours later, and I can smell it wafting around me. Snake Oil similarity, but the plum and coconut add a summery vibe. The plum in Snake Charmer has always reminded me of Mme. Moriarty, and this does the same, but again, a lighter version. But don't confuse "lighter version" with lack of throw. It is beautiful, and I think I'm going to apply a spray before bed every night so that I can have it kind of soak into my pillowcase too. I am going to have sweet dreams for sure! LiberAmoris Report post Posted June 14, 2015 This is my beloved Snake Charmer in a lighter, more summery weight! If I sniff and try to parse the notes, I think I can pull amber from plum and labdanum from benzoin and ambrette. I can definitely pick up the black coconut, which is the coconut that skews in the direction of husky incense rather than suntan lotion. But overall this is like an enchanted Snake Oil, like Snake Oil pulled through Arabian musk and amber and plum. It's addictive and sexy. The throw is close and the scent disappears within a few hours in my hair, but it resurrects with a little touchup on dry hair. I don't need more hair gloss in my collection, but ordered two bottles and do not regret it.
zankoku_zen Report post Posted June 15, 2015 Snake Charmer lite. In some ways, this really reminds me to Holliday HG, but with more plum and more coconut. If you're a fan of Snake Charmer, you need this. Sadly, I am not and while this is great and summery, it will probably get more use.... elsewhere.
Jeni Mullen Report post Posted July 31, 2015 This is a scent that I seriously do not smell on me. Not a whiff. In the bottle it's a perfect, coconuty snake oil but in my hair I get nothing. The magic is that everyone ELSE loves it. I get extra long hugs. I get told that I smell utterly amazing. I get asked all the time what perfume I'm wearing. I've always worn bpal for myself but when I want to impress other people, I reach for this! Any time I have a meeting I throw this on. I keep a decant in my desk. I have gotten compliments for the way I smell before (boo hair gloss is another universal winner) but I get compliments every single time I wear this. I should track down more of the Snake Charmer oil because this is the scent everyone now associates with me. Yeah. It's that special.
milo Report post Posted August 9, 2015 Lovely Snake Charmer scent, musky, dark plum, sensuous to the extreme. It doesn't seem to last in the hair all that long for me though. Ill keep and use the decant, though to layer with my Snake Charmer perfume.
LizziesLuck Report post Posted May 1, 2016 I tracked this down immediately after I tracked down a bottle of the perfume. Glorious. On me, Snake Charmer is very much Snake Oil meets Mme. Moriarty. I get a touch more coconut in the gloss than the perfume, which is great, but its still primarily a dark fruits and patch blend, which is totally fine by me. I love it and am so glad to have both gloss and perfume.
