Chaos Theory VII: Oriental

Recommended Posts

These scents possess sensual, languid bases, including amber, benzoin, tonka, balsams, and dark, warm vanillas.

#151

In the bottle: cherry cough syrup.
Wet and dry: maybe closer to pomegranate than cherry? A touch of something else, maybe a darker wood? Incredibly faint; I can barely smell it with my nose pressed to my skin.

Origin: partial bottle gifted to me with a forum purchase

Initial Thoughts: I don't play the roulette of Chaos Theory with perfumes because there are so many notes that go bad on me. With the Orientals, the amping potential of amber and benzoin on me was too great to risk. This one is bottle #247, which mentions orange blossom and a little musk and citrus notes.

In the Bottle: I see what the previous poster meant about fresh and warm at the same time. There is floral in here, something bright and greenish and it makes my nose sting just a touch. I also get the citrus. But there is also a soft dark foundation to it.

Wet: Definitely a musk, as the note comes charging in to amp. But it's not a very dark musk, as it's not devouring everything else in its path. I still get the citrus impression and the floral, which seems to be a white one.

Drydown: Definitely not a dark musk. This is on the lighter side of the spectrum. The floral has settled in to stay and for all the world it smells like a lemony magnolia on top of the musk. I love magnolia.

Verdict: Chaos may have smiled upon me today. This is definitely something I could wear and I think I'm going to hang onto it for a while.

So not the original owner. The individual that I swapped this wasn't sure but amped up the floral notes, and the original owner called it 'dark and sexy'.

My take on this: Feminine black suede leather (on wet, I thought it may have been black musk), I think there may be some white musk in there actually, and then I get this floral note on top of the black leather which softens it a bit. I think the floral note may be violet, not entirely sure. I can't quite put my finger on it.

On me, this smells like a cousin to Kunoichi. The leather note is softer and more suede like. Cuddlier even. The impression I get is of Kunoichi's younger sister. Younger, softer, but still deadly. For those that are fan of feminine leathers like Loviatar or Kunoichi would enjoy this.

This chaos oriental smells like a more floral Morocco. Less carnation and more some other floral. Peony maybe? Not entirely sure.

This Chaos Oriental smells super familiar. It's a heavy, creamy, almost foodie vanilla musk with powdery sandalwood and something else. If I could just put my finger on it...

Unnumbered.

So this Chaos definitely has vanilla, and it has an almost bubbly/oily component at it that made me think 'flue gas' from the Century Guild Century Guild 'When I' scent. I think it may be narcissus. It ends up being slightly masculine on me.

So steampunk sort of Oriental.

Third owner of # 137. Aaannnd its final home...

I LOVE this oriental. It is very potent...so, small application is a must. This is the most gorgeous luxurious leather scent I've ever experienced. To me, it smells like a Dior store. (whoa)

Blonde/white sueded leather, white amber, white musk. As for the mystery floral, what I can smell is either african lilies, a touch or marigold, or both.
Well blended, unique, sophisticated. Total winner. :wub2:

This one on wet smells heavily of apple blossoms and green apple. It's a sweet apple blend. It has good throw but low wear length, and after about an hour it's gone from my skin.

This one is bright and juicy florals. Like guava, pineapple, and tropical. Maybe some ginger in there as well? It reminds me of the luscious fruitiness that you get in some of the Chinese New Year lunar blends like Fire Pig and Fire Cock.

Decant of 317.

Pale amber beginning & then tropical fruit - I'm leaning toward pineapple. Quite heady & sweet, maybe there's a hint of honey?

#216 - not sure how many previous owners this bottle has had but it was full when it arrived on my doorstep.

First sniff: strong sweet cotton candy?! That’s..unexpected, but not necessarily a bad thing. Let’s see how this settles on my skin.

15 minutes in: Tonka? Vanilla? Something like that I recognise now the sharp sweetness of the cotton candy is giving way. Also, I smelled something like this before...

30 minutes in: Snow Fairy.. that’s it! This smells exactly like Lush Snow Fairy shower gel on my skin right now o.O

8 hours in: still Snow Fairy, softened and nearly gone.

Yummy scent that is totally different from any other bpal I currently own. Totally took me by surprise because this was -not- something I was expecting from an oriental chaos theory. But what a pleasant surprise it was :) Definitally keeping this one!

I have a decant that's labeled #178.

Fresh on, this is very faint and pleasant. I get a creamy and light scent that's not very complex but also not boring at all.

Nothing sharp or heavy hitting my nose.

It is hard to pin down, but I can say what I do not detect in the blend:

There is no heavy wood like sandalwood that turns into pencil shavings.

There is no salty or cologne-like aquatic in the mix.

There is no sweet or dark berry. Well, there doesn't seem to be any kind of prominent fruit in this one at all.

I don't think it has amber in it as my skin usually amps this up like crazy.

It's neither earthy nor green nor white. It just... is.

After a few minutes, I get a heavy vanilla that's coming to the forefront - and what a glorious vanilla it is!

It's warm, gourmand, creamy - the kind of vanilla you find in custard, pudding or ice cream.

If there is a wood, balsam or resin in it, it is very soft and blends super well with the vanilla.

The same goes for any kind of floral. Maybe there is the faintest hint of carnation or orris (butter)?

The only scent I can describe this too that I tried is Black Opal?

Or Mouse's Long and Sad Tale minus the sandalwood (and minus the fruity element to it).

I really wish I had a bottle of this, super nice. :)

ETA:

I tested this again today - and it smells very different on me.

It is still a creamy and light scent, but I do get an aquatic and slightly floral vibe.

It could be a white or yellow flower - no daisy, carnation, mallow, jasmine, rose, violet, or magnolia.

I want to say that it smells a bit like sun tan lotion, so could it be tiare/plumeria/frangipani?

It gets more and more into the territory of skin musk, vanilla, faint floral and a very soft aquatic.

Must be the larger amount of oil that I used today that made the breezy and floral vibe come through more.

It certainly reminds me of Pele if I remember it correctly.

Bottle of #61

This could fit into the Gourmand category, no problem.

Strong chocolate/cocoa powder, perhaps some honey and wood? There's a bit of tanginess that makes me guess honey. After a while, something gets quite dry/powdery feeling, maybe the woods but I'm leaning towards cocoa powder. I'm not seeing how this fits in as an Oriental, unless there could be some amber in it? Definitely dominated by the cocoa/chocolate.

Got an unknown # bottle... I'd say this is resinous and sweet, with some labdanum and a gentle almost dried flower note. It's a soft, gentle, fuzzy and sweet skin scent, like Antique Lace if it was utterly without vanilla.

I'm confused as this almost completely dissapears on me. In the bottle strong amber and balsam notes, on my skin just a little bit of tonka. :(
