ltrittipoe Report post Posted January 31, 2016 Long before the gods of cinema turned their celluloid eyes to the streets of Los Angeles, Chinigchinix, He Who Enforces the Law, stalked Southern California. With the aid of his eyes – Crow, Mountain Lion, Bear, and Rattlesnake – he watches over the ancient people of California, ensuring that they behave in accordance with correct moral codes. Black copal and white sage with chaparral, beach saltbush, pearly everlasting, fire poppy, and white flowering currant. I can't believe no one has reviewed this yet! I had a wonderful fairy pick me up a bottle from the first Lunacy back at the Lab, which this scent commemorates.Right out of the mailbox...still cold, But this is really lovely! It smells like night time in the desert... Or at least what I imagine night time in the desert would smell like! Dark and dry, there's an herbal astringency but not sharp... I'm not familiar with most of these notes, but I do recognize the white sage. I think that is the astringency that I smell. The black copal contributes a resiny faint sweetness, and overall I just feel like - if I were sitting in the desert, in the middle of the night, watching the stars, no people anywhere, - this is what I would smell. This is one of the few scents that gives me such a clear visual. I know a lot of people see scents, but I rarely do. This is so evocative, I can't help it, though. I wish I were better at reviews, too!
VioletChaos Report post Posted January 31, 2016 Thanks to my pick up fairy!!! In The Bottle: I also get that "green" astringent smell. But it's not sharp or unpleasant or medicinal. I think it's the sage note, most strong in the bottle. Wet On Skin: The black copal is getting in on the act now, lending a nice resinous weight and balancing the sage. It's very "clean" smelling without being soapy. Dry Down: A very gender-neutral scent, this makes me think of being out in Montana, an arid area that isn't quite desert, isn't quite mountain. It's sweet without being cloying, clean without being soapy. A little resinous without being heavy. It's a hard one to pin down, other than saying I can see cowboys, and people who love cowboys, really enjoying this scent
LizziesLuck Report post Posted February 27, 2016 Thanks so much to my lovely Fairy! Wet: Mmm. Lots of rich copal, other notes I can't put my finger on, but it kinda makes my eyes roll back in my head a little. This is good. Quite gender neutral, at this point, just the right amount of sweetness. Dry: This is sooo good. It smells like the world's best cologne. I'm not at all sure I can pull off wearing it, I always feel really feminine scents suite me best, but this is just amazing, Night in the desert, for sure. Resinous, a bit woody, a bit herby. I kinda want to find a cowboy to splash this on...
zankoku_zen Report post Posted February 29, 2016 Smoky, rich copal, sage, touch of dusty sand and poppy. This one is a smoky, Southwest themed floral based on copal. It's gritty, pretty and rough and tumble. Good throw and wearlength.
milo Report post Posted March 1, 2016 Quite resiny with a dollop of musk on me. What comes to mind is 'classic bpal', which is a good thing. Oh, and there is something akin to vics, but it fades pretty quickly. Nice, glad I got to try this, but don't need any more than my half imp.
