taliawhat Report post Posted December 27, 2012 I am so excited because I get to recommend Wilde, which is one of my favorite scents, and one that doesn't get nearly enough love. Wilde sounds absolutely divine! Plus Oscar Wilde kicks ass, so it's a huge plus in my book. It sounds like something he'll like - and that I will like to smell! And I actually already have a Rumpelstilzchen imp, it was thrown in a couple years ago with one of my orders, and I never thought of having him try it. Good idea! He may like Jareth from the Labyrinth collection, or The Black Rider from Marchen. Thank you for the suggestions! I don't know much about The Black Rider, but I'll look into it. He actually already wanted to try Jareth! Shawn, my boyfriend, got me a BPAL for Christmas, and in the box was a flyer for their Labyrinth line. So cool, right? Share this post Link to post
Mechanical Death Report post Posted December 27, 2012 okay- i'm trying to find something, ANYTHING that smells like Encens Mystic by Crazylibellule and the Poppies (which seems to have gone under). another signature scent of mine bites the dust. sigh. simply, it smells like a midnight mass in france. but here are the notes: Top Notes Clove, Cedar Middle Notes Incense, Myrrh, Benzoin Base Notes Patchouli, Vanilla, Musk does anyone know the scent and have a similar alternative? Nothing smells like Encens Mystic IMO. I love that stuff and I'm glad that I have a couple of tubes of it, but I have never found anything that smells similar. There is just something about EM that smells more like church incense, or incense period. The notes are similar to a lot of blends that I have, but the proportions make it smell so different. I think that I may need to try some layering to see if there are any combos out there that come close. I haven't really tried before, because I had the real thing, but those won't last forever. my last tube is running woefully low. i thought i'd just be able to buy it forever! it was so popular at sephora. i wondered what happened to the company. i was going to write them directly about encens mystic, but the websites are down. so the two alternatives i was given are: +bpals 'ave maria gratia plena' +comme des garcons 'avignon' any opinions? is there any way we can send a sample of encens mystic to bpal and see if they can maybe create a viable likeness? do they do that? seriously, i need my encens mystic. In answer to your last question, no, BPAL does not do customs. I saw a review for Encens Mystic where someone mentioned Avignon, so I might order a sample from Luckyscent so that I can try it. I think that it is not as sweet, so it might need to be layered with something. I am testing Ave Maria Gratia Plena right now and I'm really finding it to be mainly a floral. I'm wondering if some of the woodier blends layered with something might work. I will start playing around with things tonight. Maybe Aureus or Cathedral layered with something with vanilla or a sweeter resiny blend. Ugh, so sad that Encens Mystic is gone. I bought a couple on line for $5/ea, but I didn't realize that they were disc, or I would have gotten a lot more. =( have you tried Cathedral? if so, what did you think? really considering it. thanks for all the help, btw. Damn. I wish I knew of that existing. It sounds lovely! If you can get your hands o. Smiling spider, it has a lot of similar notes. Dark woods and clove, mildly resinous. Dead sexy. You could try layering it with something like cathedral or penitence to get more insence directly. Share this post Link to post
Wren12 Report post Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) I highly, highly, recommend Crowley, from the Gaiman Good Omens line. It has infernal musk, lavender cologne, lime rind, leather...and awesome, pure distilled awesome. It doesn't meet all the notes you were thinking of, but I think it could definitely fit the bill! And how sweet of him to give you BPAL for Xmas! I wish someone had done that for me! Eta: here's the Crowley review thread... http://www.bpal.org/topic/35105-crowley/page__st__125 Edited December 29, 2012 by Wren12 Share this post Link to post

forspecial_plate Report post Posted January 10, 2013 I just found a really old imp of The Caterpillar (maybe from my first order??), and it smells a LOT like L'Heure Bleue to me. Not too much of a stretch, they do share some notes, bergamot, carnation, neroli and iris. Maybe more, depending on what's in the 'heavy incense' notes of The Caterpillar. I think I have an imp of I Died For Beauty, somewhere, I'll have to compare (even though the discussion is 3 or 4 yrs old). : ) <!--quoteo(post=1526339:date=Aug 7 2009, 04:32 AM:name=Monster)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Monster @ Aug 7 2009, 04:32 AM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=1526339"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I tested <b>I Died for Beauty </b> (<i>ylang ylang and violet stirred by hyssop, frankincense, and grave loam</i>) earlier and I think it <b>smells</b> almost EXACTLY<b> like </b>Guerlains <b>L'Heure Bleue</b> (<i>aniseed note, bergamot, tuberose, carnation, violet, rose, neroli, tonka bean, iris, benzoin, vanilla</i>.) The notes aren't too similar but I swear it's almost a dead ringer. If there's another L'Heure Bleue fan out there who just-so-happens to own an imp of I DIed for Beauty, you've gotta compare the two and let me know waht you think! <img src="http://www.bpal.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_biggrin.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Oooh that's interesting.. AlectoFurious Report post Posted January 15, 2013 I second Sharkdiver's suggestions. I also would suggest Eden from Wanderlust. It doesn't work on me but on my sister it is coconut and figs! Plus it is GC I also love the coconut, vanilla, and tiare hair gloss. It has great throw and lasts forever in my hair. As an aside Sharkdiver totally brought great memories to mind by mentioning Sand and Sable, my beloved great aunt used to wear that and it brings back some great memories. ladymeag Report post Posted January 16, 2013 Hello! I am new to BPAL. For some reason I always like scents that are bound to be discontinued. Can anyone suggest anything like these?..... Victoria's Secret - slice of heaven Victoria's Secret - Sagittarius Millineum Hope Or bath and body works vanilla verbena bath salts (it's not discontinued but figured i would try it too) Thanks! From what I gather online, Slice of Heaven smells like sweet yellow/vanilla cakes. In that case, you may want to try Eat Me (notes: Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants.) I couldn't find any notes or info on Sagittarius. Looking at Millenium Hope for Women Jivago, I might suggest Dracul (Black musk, tobacco, fir, balsam of peru, cumin, bitter clove, crushed mint, and orange blossom) or Great Sword of War (Mandarin, tonka, saffron, black tea, cocoa, tobacco leaf, sanguine red musk and five classical herbs of conflict,) depending on the feel you get from either. bonny Report post Posted January 17, 2013 ok, so i'm not sure which version of australian gold i used to use- but season of ghosts smells EXACTLY like it. i swapped it away because i didnt want to smell like my sunblock, but it was a happy, bergamot-heavy deal for sure. Share this post Link to post
JasminDreams2010 Report post Posted January 26, 2013 I would agree with Whip for stella. as far as anais anais have you tried juliet or leanan sidhe? my mother used to wear this and while I can't remember exactly what it smells like, i believe it is in the same fragrance family... happy hunting Hi Everyone! I'm fairly new to BPAL, and I am rapidly becoming completely addicted. I'd love to draw my mom, sister, and SIL into all the smelly goodness! I thought that finding BPAL scents that are close to what I remember them wearing might be a place to start. I'm terrible at figuring out notes, but here is what I found on the Internet for the perfumes I remembering them liking. (I think my sister has moved on from her teenage scents, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to be a bit nostalgic!) Any thoughts you have on the following perfumes would be awesome! Stella - "In the top notes there are rose oil, peony and a gentle touch of fresh tangerine. In the heart of the perfume there is rose, whose gentle scent is emphasized by the deep note of amber in the base." (A few earlier posts mentioned The Empress and Whip as possibilities for Stella. I have imps for both on order!) Amarige by Givenchy - "The top notes are composed of fresh fruit: peach, plum, orange, mandarin, with the sweetness of rose wood and neroli. The floral bouquet, very intense and luscious, is created of mimosa, neroli, tuberose, gardenia and acacia with a gourmand hint of black currant. The warm woody base is composed of musk, sandalwood, vanilla, amber, Tonka bean and cedar." OR Notes (from Jan Moran): mandarin, neroli, violet leaves, rosewood, gardenia, red fruit, ylang-ylang, acacia farnesiana, mimosa, musk, vanilla, tonka bean, woods, ambergris. Pleasures by Estee Lauder- Top Notes: White Lilies, Fresh Violet Leaves, Green Accord Middle Notes: Black Lilies, White Peony, Pink Roses, Jasmine, Karo Karounde blossoms, Baie Rose Base Notes: Sandalwood, Patchouli L'Air du Temps by Nina Ricci - "The floral-spicy note of the carnation is in centre of its composition. Bergamot and rosewood support the development of the carnation theme, refined with the notes of rose and jasmine. Violet and iris give a powdery nuance, and create a harmony with the woodsy notes of cedar and sandal, while sensual musk and amber add the final feminine accord to the composition." Anais Anais by Cacharel - "Transparent orange blossom with heady hyacinth open the composition. The intensive floral heart blends sweet rose, delicate white lily and magical jasmine. The base is composed of comforting amber, warm sandalwood with a tender touch of misterious incense." THANK YOU!! Edited for typo. Share this post Link to post
sth0 Report post Posted January 27, 2013 I'm looking to find a comparable oil (if this reaches beyond BPAL, I'm ok with that) for a blend by Dorian + Dalh because she may never make this again and I didn't grab it when I had the chance :/ "Pele's Fire Perfume Oil - Hawaiian Lei, Kola Nut, Smoke, Cedarwood Welcoming Hawaiian leis add earthy coolness to the sweet warmth of kola nut while lingering volcanos’ plumes weave through sun-drenched ʻŌhelo ʻai bushes along a seaside volcanic cliff. SCENT FAMILY: Warm, Fresh, Sweet, Woody" In other words, a white/tropical floral with smoke and a little wood. Any ideas? I have Hawai'i by Possets which I could layer with something. aphrodite Report post Posted February 8, 2013 i've seen Angel pop up in this thread a lot, but what about Angel Innocent? I'm not a BPAL noob and I have an entire medicine cabinet filled with 5 mls and imps, but I've yet to find one that mimics Angel Innocent. please don't respond with scents that list similar notes - I find the notes listed in commercial perfumes smell entirely different than the same ones in BPAL. but if you've actually smelled a BPAL and though, Angel Innocent, please let me know! <3 I'd also love to find a match for Annick Goutal's L'eau d'Hadrien. Graphica Report post Posted February 15, 2013 I ran across a perfume (online) that supposedly contains human pheromones -- which I'm not interested in -- but the description of the rest of the elements sounds lime ME: grapefruit, bergamot, pepper, lavender, and amber. I'd have bought this Erox the moment I read the description if it weren't for the pheromones. Any recommendations on a BPAL that might be similar in the other notes? Thanks! neptuneanblues Report post Posted February 15, 2013 This one has some of the same notes, but I may come back to this if I think of a closer match. Share this post Link to post
fufu_berry Report post Posted February 15, 2013 (edited) Hmm...Spider (White ginger, artemesia, vetiver, nutmeg, King mandarin, bergamot, and lime) seems like it might have a similar citrus/spice profile. Or perhaps Calliope (lavender and bright mint with bergamot, verbena, thyme and a touch of sweet orange and warm almond). Calliope is discontinued, but Spider is a GC (Neil Gaiman). I haven't smelled either personally, just going on the notes, but I hope you find what you're looking for. ETA: For what it's worth, there's no evidence that "human pheromones" exist, so if you're put off by the possible effects, there are probably none to worry about. bethanyoh Report post Posted February 17, 2013 Hi guys, I adore so many fragrances from the lab and have noticed quite a few that resemble other fragrances that I own (non BPAL) and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion or 2 for a oil that is similar to Chloe The notes are :Pink Peony, Freesia, Lychee, Magnolia Flower, Lilly of the Valley, Rose, Cedarwood, Amber, Honey. While I don't really use mainstream perfumes anymore, Chloe is one that I find myself going back to all the time, plus bf really loves it on me. I'll gladly give up my Chloe if I can find a substitute. Share this post Link to post

venoroxie Report post Posted February 23, 2013 Perhaps I'll get lucky and run into someone who has sniffed this stuff. *hopes* I don't honestly know what Honeysuckle alone actually smells like.. but I do know Lavender, and I can say there is a decent amount in this body wash. It's like a sweet lavender, but clean, herby, but not medicinal to me. HELP! I love it <3 Share this post Link to post
Floria Report post Posted February 23, 2013 Twilight from the Ars Moriendi section has lavender, jasmine, and honeysuckle, and I think I get lavender and honeysuckle out of Somnus as well, though the notes aren't listed. If you want a sweet lavender without a strong floral element, there's TKO. Share this post Link to post
Balame Report post Posted February 23, 2013 I haven't smelled this unfortunately, but I wanted to mention that one of the new Luper LEs (A Mirror of Spring Pleasures on Kites) is a killer honeysuckle blend. It doesn't have lavender, but it does possess a creamy herbal sweetness. You may like it! Share this post Link to post
