VioletChaos Report post Posted November 25, 2016 Blackened cacao, black sandalwood, coconut, and dark, sweet musk. In The Bottle: Rich, chocolately chocolate. Like Bliss, if it were dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate. Wet On Skin: I can see the comparison to the original Candy Butcher for sure- it's like a very dark melted Belgium chocolate cut through with a dollop of cream. YUM! Dry Down: On dry-down, the chocolate becomes slightly more like a powdered chocolate- like a dark hot cocoa mix. It's warmed up a bit, too, scent-wise- I suspect that's the black sandalwood adding some depth to the mix. I might detect a *sliver* of coconut, but this isn't a Mounds bar or anything, so don't expect that.In All: Chocolate scents can be hit/miss on me. Luckily, this appears in the same family as Bliss and Candy Butcher and so it's pure win. Low throw, warm and gorgeous. I will treasure this now and anticipate more glory with age. <
Catcircus Report post Posted November 25, 2016 I was lucky enough to get a fairy to grab this for me. At first all I smelled was chocolate so I gave it a few days to settle. Sooo, first give it a good shake or roll. Then at first it's all chocolate, not bitter but also not super sweet. As this was drying I kept getting hints of sweet musk, and something else. Very faint. Some got on the sleeve on my shirt and as I'm smelling it now it's a soft cocoa surrounded by a beautiful musk and a soft dark sandalwood. I don't get any coconut. I'm hoping as this ages the musk and sandalwood will develop more to take down some of the intensity of the chocolate. The drydkwn where you can smell the other notes is glorious! SophieCedar Report post Posted November 26, 2016 Wet, this is a lot of cocoa, as everyone says. But, drydown I actually get notable coconut and black sandalwood + lots of musk. Chocolate takes the backseat. Let this be a testament to variation by skin chemistry!
whisperstilled Report post Posted November 26, 2016 A fairy enough was kind enough to grab me a bottle, for which I'm terrible grateful! In Bottle: Soft cocoa powder. Definitely reminding me of Candy Butcher, as I'd heard. Powdery and lovely. No coconut yet, but definitely sandalwood. Wet: This is so much like original release Candy Butcher I don't know if I could tell them apart. All cocoa right now, dark and getting a little wetter. Checking the notes, it must be the musk that's sweetening the chocolate. I smell like a very expensive truffle. Drying: Getting even softer. Right now, I think this is a bit sweet for my tastes. I wish the sandalwood was making more of an appearance to balance everything out. Just the faintest whiff of coconut giving it a little bit of a Mounds bar feel. Dry: (5 mins.) The cocoa has gotten a bit more powdery on the drydown, but it's still pretty much candy butcher all the way. Not much musk in here, aside from the sweetness. I definitely recommend this to lovers of sexy cocoa scents - as a devotee of Boomslang, I was looking for something a little drier and more in that vein, which is not this. zankoku_zen Report post Posted November 28, 2016 Rich dark chocolate, musk and a touch of sandalwood. This is a very dark chocolate blend. Foodie, without being sweet. Medium throw and wear length.
Marblemeadow Report post Posted December 2, 2016 By far my new favorite Holy Grail scent. This is rich, cocoa-y goodness - very similar to well-aged Candy Butcher. This one will age beautifully as well. I can tell. Glad I bought more than one bottle!
LizziesLuck Report post Posted December 13, 2016 Wow, this is great. I can pick out all of the notes. Cacao and coconut - yum, but the sandalwood and musk keep this from being chocolate macaroon. It's fantastic and I want to roll around in it. So glad I snagged one, thank you fairy!! Hoping this is OK in a few hours, chocolate sometimes does this weird stale cocoa puffs thing on me.... SuzyQtness Report post Posted January 21, 2017 Tested this from the imp on both my wrist and inner elbow. The scent stays 'wet' and more present longer on the inner elbow, while after about two/three hours of wear the smell on my wrist is powdery and nearly gone. Wet: strong chocolate and sandalwood Dry-down: this scent went from 'Chocolate!!!' to 'soft dusted cocoa powder' with hints of coconut on me. The boyfriend (no explanation given about notes/name) : it's a warm kind of smell, I like it. (After telling the name and notes) Chocolate? No, I didn't pick that up. Sandalwood and coconut sounds more like what I just smelled. Verdict: I'm not a big foody fan, but I love sandalwood and coconut so I had to try this. I like this smell, but I don't 'bottle-love' it. For me, the sandalwood scent doesn't stick around long enough, and it's a bit too foody for my taste.
LiberAmoris Report post Posted February 5, 2017 Cacao Pod is like a sandalwood-chocolate-coconut pudding when first applied! As with nearly all blends with chocolate, the chocolate burns off pretty quickly on me, and I'm left with a coconut, sandalwood, and musk skin scent that lasts for hours. The best part of this blend is how well-balanced the sweetness is...even with the 'sweet musk', this doesn't get too sugary on me.
rayvn1 Report post Posted July 6, 2017 Omgggggg. This isn't foody, really, which is perfect because that's what scares me off of a lot of blends. The coconut is light, and the musk is oh so sweet with the cacao note dominating. Perfect with amazing throw.
BuxomM Report post Posted October 13, 2017 (edited) I was super excited, because I love chocolate scents & nervous for this, because of the additional notes. This was a let down. I see no dark sludgy bits, so this probably wont be that true dark cocoa of cocoa absolute. It is a sweet powdery cocoa. It goes mainly to a powdery musk sweetened with Powdery chocolate. It doesnt have much throw either, good for those who dont want to have a cloud of scent around them. I have to put my nose next to my wrist. Sometime I get a huff of something floral & play doughy. Ill let it settle a week and revisit. Edited October 13, 2017 by BuxomM
sarandipitee Report post Posted January 25, 2020 God I love this, sooooo much. It’s a glorious chocolate scent. Rich, heady, dark cacao - tinged with a bite of coconut and lined with musk. It’s chocolate perfection. I own and have tested many chocolate scents and this one is my favourite, hands down. And it has aged so beautifully. Even if you’re not a massive foodie fan, I’d still search out a tester. It’s that good.
Little Bird Report post Posted May 26, 2023 I can barely tell the difference between Cacao Pod and Boomslang, except that Boomslang lasts longer on me and I think that Boomslang is just a bit richer, smoother and more complex. Still, I can barely tell the difference when Cacao Pod is first applied, until it starts to fade around the one hour mark. The cocoa absolute, undertone of creamy sweetness, and dark musk are all very reminiscent of Boomslang. It makes me want to dig through my packed boxes and find a bottle of Boomslang to slather. puellacaerulea Report post Posted April 21 On application, this is primarily a dry cacao, with the coconut and musk notes adding richness. The sandalwood note comes out more after drydown, complementing the dryness of the cacao note. This is definitely one for the gourmand lovers, though the sandalwood and musk keep this from strictly foody territory.
Viiinylflowers Report post Posted April 24 (edited) On me this is very similar to the review just above mine. Its like a dry cacao powder (but not powder-ey if that makes sense) musk with subtle tones of sandalwood and something like dry coconut warming it up a teeny bit over time. I love the chill sort of gender neutral un gourmand earthy vibe of it. Its not like a chocolate bar, but more like the earthy aspects of cacao - i imagine fresh cacao powder, cracked cacao pod shells, stuff like that. It appeals to me in the same way the hay absolute, cacao and cardamom scent does - but this one is more of that dry cacao kind of note isolated and more defined a bit. I like it a lot Edited April 24 by Viiinylflowers adding to me review lol
