The Glimmer of the Northern Lights, The Yellow Flowers of the Greenland Summer

But the Phoenix is not the bird of Arabia alone. He wings his way in the glimmer of the Northern Lights over the plains of Lapland, and hops among the yellow flowers in the short Greenland summer.

I get light flowers and a nice airiness from this blend, without an ozone note that I can detect. Maybe I've never smelled a poppy on its own as a main player (I do collect poppy blends) but this smells just a little different than what I was expecting. Different, but I LOVE it. Light to medium throw. I'm really glad I don't get an ozone note, as those tends to goes to dryer sheets on me. A great addition to my collection.

The first impression of Glimmer of Northern Lights on my skin is a yellow-orange fruity floral and a little (very little) frost. The yellow seems lemony and the orange seems like some mix of orange, peach, or apricot.

 

After a minute the opium flower develops, giving off a warm smoke-and-floral note, but on me it stays secondary to the fruitiness. The hint of frost is still present, but it's barely a touch in the air.

 

The blend as a whole is warmer than I expected, but it's not quite like anything else I have. It's bright and lovely -- like a mild winter showing a glowing heart of spring.

Golden, frosty atmospheric start with a bunch of other notes that are very new to me. It is very fruity, sweet lemon, yellow melon, yellow mango syrups swimming in a icy, dark blue glow of something almost electric. This is SO DIFFERENT. I don't have anything in my collection like this, except perhaps Rendezvous in the Bath. Very clean, fresh and bright overall. Just lovely~

I am not too familiar with poppies, this is bright, slightly citrus with darker fruits, a touch of smoke, I think. I do feel that sort of wintery coolness - it's sparkly, like the citrus on the dark fruits with swirling smoke. I am intrigued.

I have no idea what an arctic poppy smells like. I'm excited to try this one!

In the decant: I smell an evergreen note, maybe juniper, pine or fir. It's a little bit sweet and also smells "bright"...maybe something citrus? Elemi? This has few notes listed, so I'm just guessing here.

On my skin: Hmm, I think I'm getting some of the ozoney snow note here, along with some of that evergreen. The ozone note doesn't last long on me though and then fades away, but there's still a coolness to this scent. It's still smelling "bright" as well. I can't identify a specific citrus note but it's closer to lemon than orange. There's a tiny bit of smokiness but it's not overpowering at all. I've only been familiar with the poppy note as "opium" before this, which I don't really like, but I like this. It's reminding me a little of a candle I bought from Bath and Body Works this year called Autumn Sunshine, which has notes of orange, mandarin, fir needle and amber. It's not exactly the same, but it has a same sort of feeling with the evergreen, citrus and "brightness". I'm not sure if there's amber here, but I think there's some sort of resin giving it a "smoothness". It is kind of reminding me of the white frankincense note in The Contrast.

Dry, this smells similar to Old Moon 2008 on me, which I wore recently. I still have the cool evergreen but It starts to smell a little fruitier. It's that slightly spicy cool evergreen scent with possibly a bit of berry?

I really like this overall! This is pretty different from any other scents I own, but probably closest to Old Moon 2008.

Clean, piney snow and a touch of poppies. This one definitely coded as a 'winter' blend for me, and it was very Christmasy. It sort of reminded me to new fallen snow. Good throw and wear length.

Wet: Blah, pine or something. Slushy fir trees. Wasn't expecting that. Where are the poppies? I was expecting a frosted field of poppies under shimmering northern lights...but this feels more like a snow covered woods. Woods in which a cat has peed recently. A lot. That's what pine does on my skin, cat pee.

 

 

Dry: The pine is less like cat pee, but still more than I would like. It also smells like oily cardboard. I think this is not the scent for me. I imagine those who enjoy pine and other snowy woods scents would really like this though!

Definitely a poppy-opium type of scent, but different than other 'poppy' notes I've encountered before - very much a YELLOW poppy rather than red. It's like someone took a classic sultry opium and took it out in the sunshine. I will have to try this one again after I get over this cold, to see what other subtleties I can pick out, but it feels not so much like a winter scent to me, as the first cold-but-sunny hint of spring.

Weird. I don't get the snow and pine from my decant at all. This also doesn't remind me of bpal's other opium/poppy fragrances. It's sort of a nondescript, soapy, perfumey fruity-floral on my skin. It reminds me of Bath & Body Works. Some sort of spring floral (tulips?), soapy rain note, and sweet lemon fragrance, but generic and musky/perfumey.

Hmm. Soft, creamy, ozone on first sniff. Getting only the slightest bit of pine/mint in there but this is quite lovely. Definately an evening scent. It's sweet but still refined. Goes a little sharper on drydown, a touch less creamy. Too bad, it's still nice (dryer sheets?) and seriously winter-y, but not for me.
