Gingerbread, Red Fruits, and Sweet Jam

Recommended Posts

I’ve run away from a little old woman,

A little old man,

A barn full of threshers,

A field full of mowers,

A cow and a pig,

And I can run away from you, I can!

Oh dear! I’m quarter gone!

Oh, I’m half gone!

I’m three-quarters gone!

I’m all gone!

Both in the bottle and initially on my skin, this is spicy gingerbread with fruit...I think maybe pomegranate, but I'm not 100% sure. The sweet jam comes in next (raspberry maybe?) to make this an even-fruitier gingerbread. The drydown is just spicy gingerbread (similar to Gingerbread Poppet, but less clove) with a hint of sweetness from the jam. Yum!

This was a blind-bottle purchase for me and I'm happy I took the risk. This is beautifully blended, equal parts fruity red jam and mild gingerbread. It made me wonder if there was a fruitier version of Red Hots candy: Here the cinnamon is replaced with gingerbread but you still smell the "spice" and the "red." Maybe the jam has a sort of cooling effect...

Ye gads that is a horrible description!!!

I'm sorry I can't be more evocative, because I really do like this scent and would recommend it to others. I put some on yesterday before work and 12 hours later it was still lingering, but it was never too in your face. And while it is definitely a cold weather scent, it is not identifiably Christmassy, which I like.

It's also worth noting that I have very reactive skin, and there was no redness or stinging with this blend.

Went back and forth with a couple of the gingerbreads...decided to try this one, since I am wanting to still find a sweeter, foody type gingerbread, which I haven't found...at least to my nose.

In the bottle - get a slighty sweet, jam covered gingerbread. I get the sweet and the sharp-ish gingerbread scent.

On skin - the sting of the gingerbread is sharp...almost hurts to sniff, but the sweet fruit/jam comes out.

Drydown - Hmm...hard to decide if I like this or not. Hate when I get a scent on and one second I am thinking, "yeah...I like this" then another second later I am thinking, "No...not for me." I get the fruit and jam, and the gingerbread is still slighty more prominent, but it is still a bit too sharp for me. Not sure I am making sense, but I am wanting that sweeter, cookie type GB....mostly what I have gotten from the Lab is like a more baking cupboard GB...more nose tingly and hard to sniff. Not sure what to do!!

I was hoping for a soft, warm, freshly baked gingerbread cookie sweetened with tart, red berry jam. Subtly, sweetly spicy. This is very sharp and spice-forward on me, though. It does kind of remind me of the sharp cinnamon of red hots candies. I can smell a hint of sour fruit in the bottle, but there's no fruit to be found once this is on my skin. It's all amped up, sharp cinnamon.

This gets the honor of being my first Yule decant to get skin tested/reviewed, solely because I had trouble getting the cap off and then it splashed all over my hand.

I have Gingerbread Poppet 2010, which I actually wore today, and this gingerbread note is similar to that but minus the "vanilla/frosting" aspect I get from GP. There are spices like cinnamon and a sort of bready-cookie background and something like melted butter. Wet on my skin, I smell sweet-tart red currant along with the spices. I remember an orange and red currant candle I used to own ages ago (I think it was from Illuminations--sad those stores closed) and this reminds me of that, minus the orange. Maybe the "red fruits" includes a bit of raspberry as well, but on me it's mostly currant. While this reminds me of a holiday candle, it's definitely one of the better/realistic ones. I am still smelling the melted butter note as well. The fruits fade away somewhat on my skin as it dries. They're still faintly there, but it dries as primarily spices (mainly cinnamon) with a bit of melted butter and a little sweet fruit.

This is probably not different enough from Gingerbread Poppet on me to justify a full bottle (I still have most of my bottle of GP), but it's a really nice variation and the currant scent while the oil is wet is really nice. It's too bad that note doesn't last very long on my skin.

This gingerbread is definitely the bread and not the cookie, which I actually prefer, both for smell and taste. There's a savory butteriness going on along with the spice bread, and the red fruit makes it feel more moist and a bit tart. It sort of smells like someone decided to put butter and jam on a big slice of gingerbread fresh out of the oven. Delicious!

Gingerbread, pomegranate, and a touch of sugar. This one is a redder, fruitier Gingerbread version. Much more foodie. Is there cranberry in this? It smells to me like a cranberry/gingerbread mix.

This is making me crave cranberry muffins. Good throw and wear length.

Jammy gingerbread! This is gingerbread strong on the spices, particularly cinnamon. Smells like raspberry is one of the red fruits here, unsure of the others. Dries down to what smells like gingerbread with a layer of luscious jam on top. Really strong sillage on me; the tiniest bit lasts all day.

In the decant/imp, this smelled of ginger, cinnamon, and a buttery baked-good note, essentially a really lovely gingerbread. The fruit and jam weren't strong, but cinnamon is a very strong scent, so that makes sense. On my skin, the cinnamon immediately goes sharp and chemical-y. Awful. Underneath the chemicals was the scent of tart red fruits. Cinnamon often does this chemical smell on me, and sometimes it improves and sometimes it doesn't, so I gave this the benefit of the doubt and didn't wash it off. After a while, the chemical smell calms down quite a bit (though it never quite fades on me), and this turns sweet and spicy. The sweet jam really comes out, and it smells a lot like if you made jam thumbprint cookies out of gingerbread instead of regular cookie dough. Amazing for someone who has a better chemistry for cinnamon.

I've enjoyed this and didn't realize I never made a review!

Warm gingerbread and red fruits, that's what I get.  It was very strong on me at first but has calmed down a lot since I got it.  The overall effect when I put it on is like toasted bubblegum, which is great.  I don't think I've liked any other gingerbread scent as much as this one.
