BPAL Madness!

Gelt-Smeared Dreidel

Recommended Posts

[No additional description given.]

This needs a good shaking before application because there are small globules of what appears to be cocoa floating in a rather thick, viscous oil. It's been years since I've sniffed the LE "Gelt", but I'm immediately reminded of it - that and wood, I think mainly cedar on application. The cocoa is just a wisp in the background, and I smell a mix of golden amber, cedar and maybe sandalwood. This is reminding me a lot of "Aureus" at this stage. By dry-down, there's some vanilla joining the mix, and a good deal of it. And a hint of dried fruit and baked goods (Fig Newtons came to mind), but it really is so barely-there I'm not sure I'm not just imagining it. Overall it's a warm, golden cedar and amber blend with vanilla and a bit of cocoa and rich pastry.

In the bottle, this has many visible cocoa blobs. :)

It smells strongly of chocolate.

Tested, on skin or test paper, it is rich melted chocolate bar over the most lovely combination of woods. There may be a hint of cedar.

The result is very smooth and comforting.

Vanilla comes out on the drydown in a big way, almost overpowering the other notes, almost going plasticy, but not quite. The wood tempers it a lot.

Soft, warm, baby powdery amber and sandalwood with the slightly woody, sweet cocoa absolute. It's kind of a Hershey syrup and powdery woods scent. I didn't try this year's Gelt, but this blend reminds me of previous year's Gelt. Too powdery for me. This lasts for about 4 hours, but has almost no throw on me. Cocoa absolute seems to cling close to my skin.

Bought a few imps worth in a decant circle because I'm a big fan of the old iterations of Gelt, BPAL cocoa, and dreidels.

In the imp: The cocoa and amber of gelt, a slight whiff of the wood shavings and also, as a previous reviewer noted, something ineffably fruity.

Applied to wrist and in crook of arm (scents tend to smell slightly different on the totally dry skin and the parts that perspire a little so I like to test drive in both).

WET: Strong cocoa throw first ... sniffing my wrist I get the Gelt with wood shavings, and sniffing the crook of my arm I'm getting something a little more "golden" and round, for lack of a better way to describe it.

DRYDOWN: This ends up a little more "un-cocoa" than Gelt did on me, with the wood shavings more predominant in the crook of my arm. The wood way outlasts the cocoa but I happen to love wood shavings so it works for me.

A very definitely gender-neutral scent.

Chocolate and cedar. I get a very chocolatey blend, with wood notes underneath. It's actually a masculine milk chocolate blends. Good throw and wear length.

There are definitely cocoa globules suspended in my bottle. I wanted to try this because I saw it described somewhere as like Golden Priapus with cocoa, and I love Golden Priapus. This is definitely cedar as opposed to the pine of GP, but it's a gorgeous, well-behaving cedar, which is a comfort note for me and blends beautifully with the chocolate and hint of vanilla. Unisex and not at all foody. I like this a great deal.
