White porcelain cracked by white tobacco, threads of brittle cognac, and vanilla filigree.

ooh, this is pretty. i think i am mostly getting cognac and whatever note the porcelain is, with hints of tobacco and vanilla in the background. it's kind of cold, but a bit sweet and the cognac does warm it up a bit. something about this scent seems so familiar, but i can't place it. it definitely makes me think of pale white porcelain surrounded by darkness, and it is so pretty. i think i need a bottle of this.

Bottle: I'm getting a whiff of cognac without the booziness behind it, with a definite sweetness from the vanilla. There's also a sweetness coming from something else that I think is supposed to be the porcelain note. It's almost cold, but not minty or "snowy".

 

Wet: Very elegant! Not much different than what I got in the imp, but there's definitely a powdery quality to it. Think powdered vanilla sugar rather than baby powder. It's actually pretty faint on me, which is strange since a lot of the reviews mentioned it having very good throw.

 

Dry: The tobacco is starting to come out! It blends in very well with the other notes - definitely perfumey but very classy and subdued. I love how prominent that vanilla sugar note is, but it doesn't come across as foodie at all. I have a lot of creamy vanillas in my collection and this is a welcome change. As it dries further I get a little more of the cognac, which definitely contributes to that slight astringency you get from a traditional perfume. Throw is still low-average, though.

 

Verdict: I absolutely love this, though it evokes exactly the opposite of pediophobia for me. I'm imagining an expensive, heirloom doll with thick eyelashes, soft ringlets, and delicate lace gloves. I totally get the Edith Cushing comparisons, though EC has more of a cakey quality whereas Pediophobia is smooth and refined. I actually like this one way more! I'll definitely snatch up a bottle before it's too late!

A lot of people mentioned a similarity to Antique Lace and so I had to try it.

 

In the bottle: Definitely getting that AL smell

 

Wet: Lots of tobacco, this is not the delicate scent I was expected based on other reviewers. It's deeper and more smoky than AL for me.

 

Dry: The tobacco disappears and I finally get the dried linen floral and vanilla of AL. It's not exactly the same as AL on me, but it is definitely similar and that is enough to make me keep my bottle.

 

I suspect that as this ages some of the smokiness will mellow, definitely a keeper and glad I ordered it.

I finally got my hands on the rest of the Yule decants I wanted from last year (I was late to the Yule game and therefore missed all the circles), and while I like some of the others I am truly kicking myself for not blind-bottling this. The vanilla in here is rich and gorgeous, just a touch boozy, and exactly how I like it. The cognac and tobacco are not overly prominent as I feared but soft and perfumey, more background notes to the prominent vanilla. There is a sort of cold powdered thing going on that I guess is the porcelain, and the overall effect is beautiful and just a tinge unsettling. I need a bottle!

Ohhh this one is so cool

When I first put it on I get a really nice luxury baby powder (and I normally HATE baby powder)

That fades rather fast (15 min or less) and then it starts to smell like the lotion & body wash the brand Principessa beauty used to make (that I can't find anymore) and I LOVED the smell of it. Sorry, that's not too helpful unless you've used the brand but I can't think of any other way to describe this phase

Lastly the Vanilla becomes a lot more dominant and it's similar to the vanilla dry down that I get from Stekk (not exact, just reminiscent of)

In the Bottle: Sharp perfume smell, it must be the cognac. I get a sharp, dry smell that has an underlying sweetness.

Wet on Skin: I get a burst of really bright tobacco smell with the boozy cognac notes next to it. This is VERY strong, throw is large.

Dry Down: This dries down into a still prominent tobacco note, but I get some light vanilla, that must be the vanilla filigree. Almost as if the smell is laced with just a tad of vanilla. This is super sophisticated, and strong! The tobacco note in this is dry and sweet, almost like a tobacco flower.

This is a feminine vanilla, tobacco blend. The porcelain note lends a soft chalky vibe, but not in a gross way. It is soft, pretty, and slightly powdery. Its sweet, but not cloying, and not at all foodie. Very pretty scent.

I tested Pedio with the hopes it would remind me somewhat of the beloved Antique Lace, but it definitely reminds me more of the lovely Zorya P.

 

Wow... this is lovely. Very petite, pretty and proper like a true porcelain doll. There is something quite haunting about it though, a little unsettling.

There is a also "lacey"quality about this scent, I am so pleased! It's warm and inviting after the tobacco settles down and my skin amps the vanilla

 

I imagine a very elegant little doll with a tattered lace dress. She may be warm and comforting to some, but eery to others. As for me, I love it!

In the bottle all I smelled was tobacco and cognac, however on my skin it was totally different!

 

I can definitely see the comparisons to Ava. This is like a more gender neutral version of Ava to me with no fruity element. It smells like an expensive vanilla musk (like Ava). It almost has a slight creamy floral aspect to it, it reminds me a bit of the creamy undertone I got from Cave of Treasures. The more this sits on my skin, the more it smells like a perfumey vanilla cream. Absolutely luscious!

 

I was hesitant to buy this because I am scared of the tobacco note since my boyfriend is highly sensitive to it (not in an allergic way, just in a nausea way). Thankfully the tobacco is not strong to my nose (once it is on my skin). My boyfriend is very sensitive to tobacco notes so I will update my review once I get his input.

I bought a bottle of this back when the Yules were live in 2016, but I wasn't able to sniff it until half a year later due to being on a different continent, and I guess I never reviewed it when I first tried it! I wore it for the first time in a while the other day, though, so time to give this one a proper review!

 

This one appealed to me because I saw vanilla, tobacco, and cognac, and automatically thought "Ooh, this could be like one of the Dark Delicacies Laces!". Well, that didn't end up being the case, but it is a lovely scent nonetheless. The vanilla in this is a drier vanilla, not like the creamy vanilla of the laces. It combines with the cognac to create a candy-like scent, but it is made somewhat perfume-y (for lack of a better descriptor) by the white tobacco, which is the same variety found in scents like Fake News and Zorya P.

 

This one lasted throughout the day on me and had great throw -- I could smell it on myself without holding my arm up to my nose all day.

 

I am so glad that I ordered a bottle of this one when it was available.

I have a partial decant of Pediophobia I never reviewed, and is about to travel to a new home. So, I suppose it’s now or never...
 

Powdery, delicately sweetened vanilla, with an undercurrent of some high-end perfumey sharpness. A poisonous edge to something seemingly innocent. Deadly knowing and heart-clenching loveliness.

This is very very pretty. It smells like a dusty white. It's sweet from the vanilla with a lightly smokey edge of the tobacco and slightly bitter cognac. It's hard to describe but it smells like an old room filled with antiques and white porcelain dinnerware with a hint of tobacco and alcohol. It's super pretty!

Watery vanilla, similar to Zorya Polunochnaya - which is probably the tobacco. There’s also some smooth diffuseness about it, but I just can’t get behind the wateriness.

i like this.  it doesn't make my heart race or anything, but i can see myself reaching for it when i want a nice vanilla variant.

Incredible. Pediophobia is not for the faint of heart. The tobacco flower here is KICKING. The same white tobacco flower that appears in Zorya Polunochnaya (or Zorya P., as we all call it) is even stronger in this iteration, a boldly sweet tobacco-infused floral that always gives me hardcore oldfashioned lacey vibes. When wet, it is accompanied by a smoky cognac that only adds more lace upon lace. The vanilla is certainly present too, sweetening everything. A chilly aldehyde helps bring the porcelain scene to life. I recognize it from Sustained Boos, but here it is much cooler and oddly more wearable.

 

As it dries, the vanilla steps forward more in a floral way - I think that's the "filigree" - and it is far from your average basic bitch vanilla. Antique Lace tends to fall into that basic category for me, but Pediophobia is creepy-beautiful, thanks to its powerful tobacco flower/cognac presence lending beautiful old attic with all its ghosts, and the chilled bone-china smell of the porcelain. I really have smelled tea-shops that have this kind of scent. Really amazing how Beth can bottle this!

 

If you have the chance to test or acquire Pediophobia, it is absolutely worth doing so. If not, try Zorya P. and see if you vibe with it. Pediophobia is its gothic doll cousin (haunted doll, obviously) and is the clear winner as far as uniqueness goes. However, it is VERY strong and only needs a little dab to throw for hours and hours. Zorya P. might be more liveable for day to day wearing - and if you don't want to wear a scent ALL day, Zorya has got you covered. Pediophobia is a commitment to this doll-fearing lifestyle.

I love scents in this family - Zorya P, To a Wreath of Snow - and always on the lookout for variations. 

 

Pediophobia has that stunningly realistic cracked porcelain note that differentiates it from its cousins. It reminds me of a haunted porcelain doll that someone has shattered out of terror, its white shards littering the floor, ready to draw blood. It's somewhat disconcerting and absolutely perfect for a scent representing phobia of dolls. The cognac, white tobacco, and vanilla definitely makes it smell like it could be a Lace as well ("Porcelain Lace" or "Haunted Lace" would probably what I'd name it if I didn't know its proper name).

 

Honestly, that porcelain is so fascinating and it boggles my mind how Beth is able to make a porcelain accord that's so real. Unique, captivating, haunting. I hope this one either makes a comeback or something like it - Haunted Lace, for Weenies? 😍 - is released one day.
