Numerikawa No Bobo-Dako Bath Oil

Mimosa, blue musk, cucumber, blackcurrant bud, and sweet almond blossom.

I had thought: This one is weird, and I don't know how these notes will work together, but there aren't many non-chocolate bath oils for the Lupers, so let's try it. Maybe it will make sense when I smell it.

 

In the bottle, it just smells bad. Disjointed, nothing going together. It took a while for me to try it on.

 

On my skin, it's a wet-green cucumber with lightly warm-toned flowers and some black currant. Yup, it's weird. The notes feel pretty random to me.

 

Once it dries it settles down into... I guess sort of a watery-green spa skin scent. There's a little floral left but the currants don't hang, which is for the best because it reduces the noise. It's OK at this phase. I'll keep this since I like the bath oils, but it's not what I'd hoped for.

I love the cucumber and blue musk notes for when I want something springlike or feminine, and the bitter blackcurrant-and-tobacco tar Dead Leaves weenie was a surprise hit, so I took a chance with it.

 

This one wants the heat of your bathwater to bloom, I think. It smells like I'm floating in the inky blue-black waters of a Roman bath in an underground hall. The almond blossom lends a touch of warmth, but it's primarily blue musk balancing the sweet mimosa and the astringent, bitter-juice blackcurrant. Think "sullen, deadly sea siren taking her beauty bath."

 

I may sell a decant out of my bottle because I don't see myself reaching for it often enough to use it all up before the shelf life expires, but it's actually really gorgeous and unlike all of my other bath oils, which lean toward resins and warm notes.

Cucumber, blue musk, and a touch of tar and almond. This one is a dark grey blue, fresh but the tar keeps it from being too fresh, the almond lends a bit of sweetness and the blue musk makes it oddly watery and dreamy.

When I saw the description mentioned cucumber and blue musk, and reviews made references to spas and Roman baths, I jumped at the chance to get a decant of this because I love aquatic fragrances.

 

When this arrived, I'd forgotten it was a bath oil, and because it was mislabelled as a hair gloss, I slathered it in my hair, wondering why it felt heavier than the previous glosses. Oops. So when the scent disappeared quickly, I just figured it was because I was using it wrong.

 

Then I tried using it as a body moisturiser on dry skin, and again, it faded very quickly.

 

After that, I tried using it in the bath, and it definitely needs the heat to intensify the release of the scent. Sadly, i got mostly sweet almond and blackcurrant and a hint of something else. I tried pouring more in the bath, but no joy. Finally, I slathered it on post-bath to see how it went, but it was still primarily sweet almond with a hint of blackcurrant. Again, it faded quickly, though using it during and after the bath meant the longevity was a little better, but not by much.

 

I really tried with this one (and each time shook the decant really well) as I really wanted to experience the spring-like, watery scent the other reviewers got, but no such luck.

Noticed BPTP had this one up on their Etsy, and thought I'd finally review it.

 

Right now, I'm just using it as a body oil and it's got a nice, light feel and a skin scent sort of throw. It's hard to describe the fragrance b/c it doesn't really smell like anything else to me. It's pretty and soft, with a fresh water vibe from the cucumber. The almond blossom and mimosa add sweetness, but it's very understated and demure. I think the black currant is probably tempering what could the syrupy quality almond and mimosa often have. It adds just the barest hint of warmth. This fragrance brings to my mind a pale, pretty asian lady, sitting by a pond, wearing no makeup and a simple white kimono, beautiful in her tranquil, gentle simplicity.

 

P.S. Wanted to add, after reading the above reviews, I think I do like it better on my skin than in the bath, so the idea it needs some warmth to come into it's own is probably apt. It's smells so cool that it's hard to think of pouring it into a steamy bath, but AFTER a steamy bath would be lovely.

[Little Bird]

I use the bath oils like regular perfume oils (they make me break out in a full bath and weigh my hair down), and this one is a soft, cool, watery cucumber and blue musk. Blue musk always makes me think of a still pond during fall where the water is perfectly reflective and not moving at all. Hints of soft floral that go slightly powdery on my skin. This is a pretty, clean, spa-like fragrance. Serene.
