His hair was a reddish gray; his beard, little more than stubble, was grayish red. A craggy, square face with pale gray eyes. The suit looked expensive, and was the color of melted vanilla ice cream. His tie was dark gray silk, and the tie pin was a tree, worked in silver: trunk, branches, and deep roots.

He held his glass of Jack Daniels as they took off, and did not spill a drop.

Sleek cologne, the memory of a Nine Herbs Charm, gallows wood, and a splash of whiskey.

this is mostly a bright and shiny cologne on me. not actually all that herby, nor really very boozy, although there are faint suggestive traces of each. this smells old school, with a tarnished sheen of respectability and a very subtle suggestion of sleaze. nice big persistent sillage and still detectable the next day. I really like this one.

I'm crap at picking out individual notes .. but I tried this on a sleeve, and to me, the most noticeable note, is "celery", or maybe finocchio (the Italian fennel and olive oil/ pepper appetizer) .. with a faint background of a nice male cologne. I like it very much; it's not a heavy blend, light to medium throw, along the lines of Dorian, but not as sweet. I get no wood, or whiskey yet, but maybe later on the drydown. I'd buy another bottle of this. 4/5.

Soapy cologne that reminds me to the event exclusive Tony, a slight herbiness on the drydown and a touch of whiskey. This one reminds me to a sophisticated older man, potentially a con artist. Think con artist like George Clooney in Ocean's Twelve. You know he's up to no good, but he's handsome and charming, and well, sometimes that's enough.

Wet: Somehow not what I expected, this smells like an expensive whiskey cocktail from a dark bar with worn wooden seats. Herbal, bright ozone cologne, whiskey, and wood.

Dry: As it dries, the wood and cologne definitely dominate, so if you're scared of the whiskey note in this one, don't be. Certainly masculine in the perfume sense, and highly sophisticated. I can indeed imagine one of mythology's great con men wearing this scent. Deceptively smooth, bright and fresh. Low throw.

[Little Bird]

A silvery, musky, kind of generic, watery men's cologne with a slight, crisp, cold, green bitterness that reminds me of celery. I get a whiff of dry wood in the bottle, but on my skin, this is all generic and underwhelming drugstore cologne. It's a clean scent, and it turns outright soapy after a while, with something that smells like a chemical, sharp burst of cheap hairspray. I don't get whiskey at all.

I like a lot of bpal's men's cologne fragrances (adore Wilde), but this smells rather cheap, flat and screechy on me.

Wet: A warm musky scent, reminds me a tiny bit of the musks in Dorian, and then the herbs come into play, and all resemblance is gone. "clean, herbal musk" is how I would describe this now. Utterly pleasant but not at all exciting.

 

 

Dry: This is a lovely clean, grassy musk on me. I don't find it nearly as masculine as I expected to. I actually really enjoy it, it feels like a cool spring day, with the sun shining and the grass starting to turn really green...not at all what I expected. Might even be worth a bottle!

In the (carded) imp: A bright, musky, citrus cologne accompanied by some whiskey.

 

Wet: Pale musk and bright citrus cologne, backed by some wood and whiskey. Then, the herbs emerge.

 

Dry: The sleek cologne continues to reign, but the herbs are more prominent than before. The wood still lingers in the background, and so does the whiskey, but I get a little more of the whiskey than the wood. The cologne has a green (possibly the herbs) and watery vibe to it, but it's also really sharp on me. I would not be surprised if this were meant to resemble a generic drugstore cologne, as if the wearer were attempting to blend in with a crowd.

 

Verdict: Although I enjoy several of the Lab's cologne scents, this particular one just isn't for me. It just... doesn't really grab me. It was nice to be able to try it, though!

[Lucchesa]

I like Mr. Wednesday all right, though he's not my usual type.  It's sort of a bright herbal cologne, tending masculine on the unisex scale, with a little woods.  I'm not actually getting much whiskey.  It has a little throw on me (more than I usually get) and pretty decent wear length.

In the imp I get something bright and sort of zappy, like a soft, green Lightning. On my skin this sweet ozone-y scent fades and it becomes even greener, and mossy. A nice clean moss scent. As it dries I get some very soft wood underneath. After a bit I get a tiny edge of whisky. Much more understated than I anticipated, but very nice! A sophisticated, woodsy cologne. On my husband it is more woody, almost spicy, and more herbal.
