White gardenia, oakmoss, champaca blossom, magnolia leaf, vanilla orchid, and tobacco absolute.

This is really wonderful! The oakmoss, magnolia, and gardenia give a sophisticated lift to a base of creamy and sweet perfume. The tobacco makes it slightly golden and carries through the whole wearing. The champaca binds the florals together in a swirl. This is probably my very favorite of the whole luper series, and I can wear this for work, on a date, as a comfort scent. It is really really wonderful. My only sadness is that it does not linger into the next morning If you like white hothouse florals, but want to bring them to a more sophisticated level, this is your scent. all of the notes are identifiable, but blend well also. The oakmoss really makes it sparkle, lending substance to the florals that they do not have on their own. Second bottle ordered already of this and Snakes Kiss. Even if you are not generally a fan of florals, this is worth a try!

[Lycanthrope]

This is a whole bunch of bright, smooth and sweet white/golden waxy flowers planted in a bower made of carved, blonde-colored woods. It is extremely elegant and smooth. The florals blend together wonderfully without becoming too 'old-fashioned' or excessively lush. It's restrained, complicated, and very, very coherent. It just smells ... grand, and good.

Gardenia and champaca reign as the benevolent, yet mildly intoxicating, queens of this garden. There's a sense of other flowers, but these two stand out for me.

 

I agree that this smells like pale, waxy flowers among carved blonde woods. I can catch a little oakmoss, and a faint, warm, golden breath of tobacco. But before I looked back at the notes, I thought instead of blonde woods.

 

The tobacco increases a bit once the blend dries, but remains light and restrained.

 

The flowers, on the other hand, are more lush and heady. This is the champaca from Fortuna Tranquilla, I think. It's decadent.

 

I'm pleased with this.

Oakmoss, magnolia, whiff of tobacco and champaca. This is waxy white flowers with some aquatic tobacco. It's clean, woodsy floral. Good throw and wear length.

In the Bottle:

Floral and slightly green with an acidic edge

On the Skin:

Intense, but not overpowering, white florals. The champaca is very evident.

On the Drydown:

This dries down to an elegant floral incense. Lovely

Wet: super strong tobacco comes out and punches me in the nose. smells like an old fashioned oriental-style perfume

 

Dry: Florals come out, and this is now a pleasant blend. the tobacco still provides that hint of incense.

This makes me so sad. All I'm getting is a fistful of champaca to the nose with a hint of aquatic smelling oakmoss. No gardenia. No orchid. No waxy, lovely white florals. I get no hint of anything vanillic, nor of tobacco. Perhaps magnolia leaf is a green not and has nothing to do with the flower?

 

I'm hoping that letting this sit a while will bring out the other notes, but if not, this is for sure a swapper. Poo muffins. :'(

 

ETA: So this has smoothed out some in the week or so I've had it, and it's nice, but it's still very champaca dominant. I was hoping for more of those lovely florals, so off to the swapmobile.

[Epiphany]

Knowing that I amp white florals, but also amp tobacco, my hope was that the tobacco would moderate the floral. However, this just isn't the case and on me, it's all floral, floral, floral soap. I think if you're a person for whom white florals work, this will be lovely, but it's not for me.

I'm loving all the releases with champaca this year. Lovers at the Entrance to a House of Pleasure Spied on by a Kamuro Through the Hanging Curtain gives a mouthy flower like champaca a run for its money by adding another big-personality flower, gardenia. These two heavy-lidded beauts make this a consummate summer floral on my skin, with the oakmoss and tobacco anchoring the base. Vanilla orchid is less prominent but adds a creamy, waxy note that helps to smooth things out. Champaca remains the strongest note after drydown, much to my delight.

this starts with oakmoss and tobacco-the base notes seem to be strongest at first, oddly enough. after a minute or two i get some champaca blossom i believe. later on i get magnolia and some vanilla orchid and maybe a tiny hint of gardenia, but i was expecting the gardenia to be much stronger. it's primarily magnolia-tobacco on me at this stage and smells like a classic scent from a time past. not as tropical as i originally imagined it would be.

After three years of ageing, I still like this:

 

I mainly get 3 notes: Gardenia typically works very well for me. Oakmoss usually adds some complexity to a luper scent, to sort of balance out things that might get to flowery otherwise. As a consequence, I can usually appreciate oakmoss in luper scents. Here, it matches the magnolia leave somehow. All other ingredients on my skin are in the background.

 

Image: It's like walking through a garden that has a couple of trees, but its still too cold to wear spring clothes.... I somehow get a dark blue colored huge flag ....made of silk ....hovering in the still too cold spring wind ... that carries first pollen.
