We have the best sinkholes. Terrific sinkholes. Our sinkholes are tremendous. YUUUGE. No administration has ever had a sinkhole like this, believe me. Obama didn’t have sinkholes. Sad!

 

The scent of a swamp self-draining: globs of wet earth, crushed grass, and untended dandelions sliding into a morass of moss-crusted opoponax, labdanum, and tar.

Proceeds from the sale of this scent benefit the American Civil Liberties Union.

This reminds me to Take a Knee - but if possible, this is grassier. There's grass, dandelions, and a touch of moss and dirt. But in general, this smells like freshly mowed grass, with a touch of dandelions. It's fresh, clean, and gender neutral. Did you want a grassy dandelion blend? Then pick this puppy up. Good throw and wear length.

In the decant: I’m getting lots of wet earth, crushed grass, moss, and some dandelions.

 

Wet: The crushed grass and wet earth jump out at me first, followed by the dandelions. Then, the moss emerges. Behind these notes resides the tar and labdanum, darkening the scent.

 

Dry: There’s a brief clash between the clean notes (grass and dandelion) and the heavier notes (dirt and tar), but then the opoponax emerges, adding a cola-like sweetness to the scent. It ends up becoming the main player. The soil is not nearly as strong as it was initially, and behind it, I can smell the dandelion and some moss and grass. The labdanum, unfortunately, is a bit sour on me, but the tar smells a lot better now.

 

Verdict: This one is a morpher! I am not sure what to think about it yet. It’s nice, and ends up being sweet on me thanks to the opoponax, but I was hoping for more dandelion and dirt than opoponax’s cola-like self. I’ll probably end up retesting this one at some point in the future before deciding.

 

*edit* I retested this and got the same thing: it starts off as grass, dirt, moss, and dandelion, and ends up being pretty much an opoponax single note on me after a few hours. I like it, but I just don't know what I'd be able to pair this one with. I'm going to hang on to my decant, in any case!

Every single note in this is one that I love (except maybe tar? I guess it depends what kind of tar) so I have high hopes for this.

 

 

Wet: I already knew that dirt and opoponax was an amazing combo. But throw in some grass and dandelions and this is AMAZING. Think cola + dandelions. Come on, just the thought makes you smile, right? So good. I don't drink much cola anymore, but it's such a nostalgic, happy smell. The grass and dandelions makes it even more so. This just totally smells like childhood and I love it. It makes me really happy every time I sniff it.

 

Wet: The opoponax settles and is less cola like and more resinous. The dandelion and grass take on a "sun warmed" sort of quality. This is amazing. I love it.

In the decant: dirt, grass, dandelions. The platonic ideal of a grassy field... and something sharp lurking beneath.

 

Wet: The resins quickly make themselves known, but also hold themselves back from the grassy opening notes. The fresh air of a late spring backyard barbecue, a plastic cup of cola in your hands, grass between your toes, angry older conservative family members going off on a rant because your cousin posted a photo of a rainbow on Facebook. That last bit might be the tar. It's easy to tune out though.

 

Dry: The opoponax gets a little bit sweeter, but stabilizes. Dandelions transition into damp moss. The dirt peeks through a bit more. It is that quiet moment, after the guests have left and you've cleaned up from the party and suddenly feel how moist your butt is from sitting on grass all afternoon because you were short on chairs, but the sun's going down and hopefully the shadows will conceal the wet spot on your pants until you can grab a minute to change. A feeling of, if not happiness, at least contentment. You made it through the day without committing murder even once.

 

Low throw on me, but solid wear length. Very unisex, fairly inoffensive. I can see myself reaching for this on gloomy days where I need a smile. It's not sunshine in a bottle, but it sure is some good vibes of karmic retribution.

dry: hmm. the wet freshness has gone and i’m left with what must be the opoponax. it’s not really reminding me of cola, but i see why people are saying that. it’s not bad, but i wish it had stayed more fresh and grassy on me. 

 

edit: i’ll probably keep this bottle to sniff, i like it wet, but it just doesn’t sit right on the skin for me.
